I'm a bit annoyed with this modern trend to make everything sound monaural since the advent of bluetooth speakers unless you wear them around your neck
@8BitNaptime31 минут бұрын
How else are you supposed to play Merzbow at top volume on the bus?
@soundguydon8 минут бұрын
Indeed. Not only the trend to make everything mono, but also the trend to make everything tiny. Granted, there are a lot of shelf speakers that sound great *for their size,* but nothing will compare to my late 90's stereo with giant speakers (I think it's packed away in my basement somewhere). Never needed a sub, because the speakers produced plenty of bass on their own. Don't get me wrong, at my age now, I have little use for a thumping stereo system -- my partying days are far behind me lol, but it seems people have become so accustomed to sub-par audio that they really don't care anymore unfortunately (me included, sadly.) Most days I'm fine just playing my music on whatever device is handy... Except phone speakers.. I haven't sunk that low yet lol

Nice video, Mat. I see this speaker system as being part of your tool kit, or "bag of tricks" as it were. You need something like it to be able to produce your content, and you've chosen it to perfectly meet your needs. And I like how (as usual) you went through the specifications and what you liked about it, so that viewers understand that and can decide on what would work best for them. We appreciate what you do, had how you entertain and inform us along the way. Thanks!

I feel that for this use case passive speakers with an amplifier hidden on the side or under the desk would be more convenient. You would only need to run one speaker wire to the speakers, the amplifier could have all the connections you could possibly need, the speakers would be lighter and easier to move around since they don't have a built in amplifier and power supply. And since the speakers wouldn't require a specific set of features you could pretty much have a different speakers for every video.

Great video review! I can't understand why you don't favor it. Crutchfield is (or used to be) a legit online "A/V store" here in US. I've bought many mid-to-higher end components from them over the years.
@OneRoomShed16 минут бұрын
Me too. I've had a great history with them. I've bought multiple CD burners along with other audio components, speakers and even car audio gear. Their prices were usually decent too. I never had to return a single product due to a problem. It has been at least 15 years since I've dealt with them so unfortunately I'm kind of out of touch on how they are now.

3D printing a new "soundbar"-case for the old speakers might have been the better solution.
@SyntheticFuture49 минут бұрын
It's a cool concept but I also get why it doesn't sell all that well and is discontinued. You don't get much stereo image so as a sound bar it's not great. It's also rather high so awkward under a TV in many situation. It's not all that flexible. And you can basically get the same by squashing 2 normal speakers in a box. And with that solution you have the added benefit of being able to take it apart and have wider stereo. I could potentially see this working on the Japanese market or some place where people tend to have smaller houses and maybe less space for a bigger setup? Although even then a soundbar is probably more compact 😅

@carlpollington50595 күн бұрын
Good video. Is there much Bluetooth lag?
@Techmoan5 күн бұрын
I haven’t tried it with anything where lag wouldn’t be an issue, but I suspect it’ll suffer the same lag as any non low latency BT system. So not to be used when video sync is important unless the source offers latency adjustments.
@bosstowndynamics54882 сағат бұрын
In theory AptX should be low lag but it's a proprietary codec and you need support on the sending device as well (which would be some, but not all, Android phones and *maybe* some digital audio players)

This is just too funny. I've got a pair of Kanto speakers sitting either side of my monitor. Same remote and I love them. They've come in very handy with the wide range of inputs. But Techmoan mentioned the single button is a volume knob. I knew it was a button because I've clicked it. I after years of owning these speakers, did not know that was also a volume knob, haha. I've just turned it and it clicks nicely around. Well don't I feel dumb. I also bought the stands for these speakers and the speaker actually crushed the stand flat which I later found out was because I'd bought the smaller stands for the smaller version. So that's just how heavy they are. They can flatten metal. I did end up getting the right size stands and I love how they look, leaned back a little. I can't see me ever upgrading to anything else unless these up and die on me.

This video is perfectly fine, the timing of last minute sales is always too critical and shouldn't be a reason to throw away a video, at least imo. Otherwise, why make videos about other old tech? If someone comes across the brand or that particular speaker for a good price it would be very much useful for them to have watched this video beforehand to realize it's a good deal. Then again, fighting the algorithm is a pain too.

@vincentliew9763Сағат бұрын
In my 2cents opinion, KZbin speaker reviews are most challenging because viewers can't hear the difference thru their headphones/pc speakers. Moreover, hifi gurus/audiophiles experts made it worst by just talking & talking forever about how good that particular speaker is & never play anything on it. (Except for Kenrick Sound KZbin channel) Matt did an awesome job on this video. Short & sweet. Thanks for entertaining us every Saturday evening.
