Beck is not only writing and producing his songs, but he's playing a ton of the instruments on their and he's even composing the string arrangements. And that's along with all the extra studio time he is spending mixing his stuff. Of course he deserved the award, and if anything, Beyonce not winning has as much to do, if not more to do with all of the people that contributed to her album than her.
