I have no issue with a "living album" per se but I do take issue with an artist releasing a first cut of it just to say they did. Call it a marketing move but such a rough cut just makes me less excited for the next update, not more. Let the first release be fairly finished then spend the next revs polishing it. Otherwise, this opens up the door for other artists to do the same with this ongoing excuse that "oh, but it's not finidhed yet!"
@underscore_54502 жыл бұрын
Yeah. I understand that the digital age allows for things to be adjusted or further polished post-release (which is great), but artists like Kanye don't need that luxury. He's made stunning and completely polished albums before. He can do it, he has done it, and he has the money to keep doing it. After seeing the care and dedication he's put into albums before compared to now, he just looks lazy. If the album isn't finished, don't release it. Especially if you're exclusively releasing it on a music device that costs $200. Its disgusting, its scummy, and it makes Kanye look bad.

As someone with Bipolar disorder, I sincerely hope that Kanye gets help and actually follows through on that. Something like a divorce- especially a messy public divorce- could easily trigger a manic or depressive episode. I'm not trying to be an armchair psychologist, just someone who can kinda relate. It's a really hard thing to live with, and it really fucks with your perception of yourself and the world around you, so genuinely I hope Kanye can learn to cope with it better, if not for himself then for the other people in his life.

I thought the best parts of the project were actually X's verses and choruses. They were haunting and beautiful. While there were a lot of empty slots, I think those two songs were extremely good, and it was nice seeing someone use X's vocals in a good way rather than how X's label typically uses them.

I can't really undestand Kanye's decision to name this album donda 2. This is basically 808's & heartbreak 2, albeit not as revolutionary. The second biggest problem is the amount of features on this record, considering how uncomfortably personal it is (not to mention that they overshadow the host). And last but not least this feels more like a mixtape, because it's pretty hard to call this an album. 2 or 3 songs seem worth replaying, but other than that a huge letdown (especially considering the stem player exclusive rollout)

thank you for setting this in the context that you did. I can’t believe how many people are blowing off his behavior and just calling everything “genius”
@TheSkaOreo2 жыл бұрын
Ye has effectively created a cult of personality around himself. In order for any of this to work, you have to buy in to the notion that Kanye is this misunderstood genius who was "ruined" by the Kardashians, and everything he says and does have some hidden meaning. Because without that--none of this works. And that's my issue with Kanye: I see through him. He's a massively insecure person, whose anxieties are made even worse thanks to the combination of mental illness and fame, and that its taking a massive toll on both his psyche and his music. He does not want to get help, and every single one of his dick riders tell him that everything he does is a masterpiece so he's not going to get help

@@AD-sh4rw I don't agree with that. Obviously bias is a part of any criticism since its founded on opinion, but difference between fans and stans is that fans can accept and indulge in criticism of their favorite artists. That's what melon does. stans cannot and will not accept any criticism of Ye. Loving Ye is a part of their personality, and they treat any criticism with hostility. Its a toxic, one-sided relationship in which someone has an extreme emotional connection to an artist who, quite frankly, doesn't give two shits about them. When you're buying a $200 music player to get a chance to listen to wht amounts to an album in its alpha state--ya got a problem.

It seems that for the past 5 years kanye has just been testing the premise of separating the art from the artist and its being increasingly difficult not just with his persecution complex but his recent depraving antics. As for the music, I actually liked Too Easy, it had a very eerie feeling to it. I also didn't mind flowers, even with its weird beat, its kinda catchy. I agree with the delusional bars on true love but I am hoping he builds it out more with more introspective verse coz that X hook is really damn good. Conversely, I thought Loui bags was the worse thing on here. I like the idea of him paying homage to vergil but that refrain of not buying loui bags since vergil, that ain't it yo. That shit was corny, even for kanye. Also, a question for you tony, do u think listening to an album in this state takes away from your perception of the final product? I felt this way about the OG Donda where I kept thinking that more should be added to these tracks and that they feel unfinished. Maybe I'd have felt otherwise if I avoided the listening parties.
