Ye really broke rap barriers. His rhymes in that era of rap wasn’t as “hood or street” but fluid , well thought out, and REAL. He made it so you don’t have to live a curtain lifestyle to rap, creativity is just as good.

Someone who worked with ye on his early work up to I think yeezus said the first time Kanye actually sat down and wrote lyrics was for MBDTF. Other than that he would just wing it until something worked. Not saying it was bad for him to do that, I think it worked out for the better where the focus of his music is more of the sounds of the beat and the way the human voice interacts with it and less about crazy flow and style in his lyrics.
