Arguably the greatest artist of this era (he produces the majority of his work) I’d highly recommend hearing his discography from the start. Namely because the artistic directions he took across his discography shifted the sound and content of the hip hop as a genre from the 2000s to present
@GB-np4pi8 ай бұрын
This released as a response to the IMMENSE backlash he got for interrupting taylor swift at an award show and saying that beyonce deserved it instead. He disappeared for an entire year and came back with this. On Gorgeous: "No more chances, if you blow this, you're bogus" = "This album is your last chance, do not mess this up" On All of the Lights: "I slapped my girl, she called the feds.." = "I fucked up and upset the public, and I got cancelled" On Power: "You got the power to let power go?" = "Am I secure/content enough to step away from the limelight now?" Runaway is entirely about self reflection (thats why it opens with "Look at ya!" bouncing between your ears) and Kanye deciding that he is not mature enough to let power/fame go. He tells us to run away from him if we don't like his actions, because he will not change for us. He's acknowledging his wrongdoing yet still not apologizing. The outro of the song isn't a synth or a guitar, it's Kanye singing through a vocoder and you can barely make out that he's singing the chorus. A popular interpretation of it is that it's a metaphor for how he's unable to find the right words to communicate as a public figure. His beautiful, dark, and twisted fantasy is fame. Every reference to a woman in this album can be replaced with his relationship with fame and it makes even MORE sense given the context of his life at the time, which to me is the genius of this album. A goal that he once thought was the answer to his problems becomes a spiraling machine, one that he is both unwilling and unable to escape from.

a bit misleading. he has production credits on 90% of his songs but he also has a laundry list of producers that help him create music from mbdtf onward. the original college trilogy was mostly him though with arrangement help from others
@nah87808 ай бұрын
@@axelmartinez3540 exactly but to be fair that's kinda what makes him such a respected artist, a lot of artists that get as big as him are no longer as involved in their music anymore, yet he still curates all his songs/albums, basically orchestrating everyone involved to get exactly what he wants in the end product, very few people can do that as well as him

Late to the party, but can explain the end of Runaway since no one seems to be doing that accurately. The last 3+ mins where Kanye uses a vocoder is a play on what he feels like he sounds like when speaking to women and the media. The first half of the song he’s describing his vulnerabilities and how he struggles in relationships. The end is how he feels his voice is begging heard by others. And you can’t understand it.

On Runaway, the last few minutes is Kanye on a vocoder (or something like that), freestyling a poem he wrote to Kim Kardashian. Such creativity. For me, I love the time he takes in those extended outros. Adds so much atmosphere.
@doomtho426 ай бұрын
Except this album came out in 2010, well over 2 years before he even started dating Kim. Also the lyrics during that pseudo-instrumental vocoder part of the song are pretty clearly (well, “clearly” being a relative term here) lyrics from earlier in the song, specifically from what I think would be considered the bridge (I’m no good with the nomenclature of song structure, so perhaps “refrain” would be more precise, but either way, the point remains). The first sentence of the original comment is correct, though - it’s a synth running through a vocoder (or is it a vocoder running through a synth?! the world may never know).

the reason kanye gets scrutinised by the media so much is because he says everything he feels and it gets taken out of context, he wears his heart on his sleave, i don't know another artist that vulnerable. as he says in a later album "they cant define me so they crucify me" and "I just feel like I'm the only one not pretendin' I'm not out of control, I'm just not in they control

Lot of this album is a symbolism for celebrity fame, and is the epitome of what Kanye and his life has become, the first line in the album with Nicki Minaj sums it up. Ever since Graduation he has been talking a lot about fame like in songs Good Life and Flashing Lights. There’s also They Say by Common which featured Kanye and what he talks already shows his ideology between him and the public aka kind of representing his schizoid behaviour which is a prominent idea in POWER inspired by King Crimson’s 21st Century Schizoid Man. I really recommend watching Dissect Podcast’s interpretation of this album if you want to know more. They have a lot of other in depth album analysis you could check out
