It is easy to hate on Kanye's new album. The man put out a very very good record like 9.0-9.5, then releases yeezus as a followup. Talk about a polarizing release. I enjoyed a good chunck of it and woulda gave it a solid 7. It is hard to not be dissapointed that his is not amazing.

Kanye is hit and miss on his music lately. Yeezus had hit and miss tracks. TLOP has hit and miss tracks. There's some depth to the album, but not all of it. And please stop asking for "old Ye", that shit is so played out. Why in the hell would any artist in today's age repeat themselves album after album? If Ye released more college dropouts and late registrations instead of MBDTF, Yeezus, and TLOP, nobody would care about Kanye outside of his album release seasons. Anthony has great musical knowledge but his perception of Kanye is straight off the tabloids and this will always cloud his judgement. This album is his most thematically complete project. He is juxtaposing the "sacred" and the "profane". He is highlighting his continued conflict between religious redemption and carnal temptations. Pablo is a play upon Pablo Picasso but also Saint Paul who underwent a transformation from Christian persecutor to Christian himself. The tracks are juxtaposed themselves to represent this conflict. Ultralight Beam with its gospel overtones is literally asking god to deliver peace and redemption, and he is calling to be liberated in Father Stretch My Hands. While "famous" is that profane boastful arrogance that is contrary to the redemption he is seeking. He acknowledges his weakness through his more profane lines and the scenes he depicts of the carnal liberty he is taking (fucking the model who bleached her asshole line). But again saying he just wants to "wake up" at the end of his verse (of father stretch my hands). This conflict is literally throughout the entire project sprinkled with rumination about his life (his going back to how he broke his jaw and "real friends"). I think the production for the most part compliments and conveys his message from the bright shine of "highlights" to the darker "famous". However, it's really growing on me. Songs like FML, Ultralight Beam, Real Friends, Feedback, Waves, Saint Pablo, No More Parties in LA are all really good. I'm a huge fan of Kanye's first 5 albums but I am really disappointed by Yeezus and TLOP. There are some tracks I like on these two albums but part of me actually hopes Kanye is more introspective on his next album

+Kenn Adams the great thing about waves is that if you take the Chris Brown vocal track and listen to it by itself, it would sound awkard as hell. add to that it's Chris Brown so now it's even worse. BUT when you add the instrumental which has wonderful pulsating synth chords cut by those snares, it suddenly becomes great. it's the perfect combination of Brown's all over the place, over the top gawdiness with the simple instrumental. as I said before intensly emotional. he sings "you set the night on fire" in half notes while most of the other sections are eighth notes (along with other syncopated rhythms) it really hits you

This album is a reflection on Kanye's life with the Car crash where he gets his jaw wired shut as his "calling" from the lord as was paul's Seeing of ultralight beams. The album goes all over the place because it reflects the stages of Ye's life and the important moments of his life
