MY FAVOURITE ALBUM - I was at the darkest moment of my life when ye released. One day I was listening to it while painting fences, and with each song that played (I had the album on a loop) I could feel the darkness peel away in layers. 'I Thought About Killing You' showed me the value of airing your thoughts, no matter how dark - they're just thoughts. Yikes showed me how guys like me could be amped up and do wild things with those thoughts (SOMETIMES I SCARE MYSELF/THIS THE TYPE OF HIGH THAT GET YOU GUNNED DOWN). All Mine is the inner monologue of a 20 year old man, as I was. Ghost Town made me realise that I nobodies opinions of me should hurt me anymore. I have since felt kinda freeeeeeee.... glad you have the same passion for this piece of art as I do Merc, fan of your work too king! ye helped save me edit: Glad to see it's your favourite too Merc - this one Kanye fan that ain't mad at you for that!

For I Thought About Killing You, notice he repeats the opening “the most beautiful thoughts are always beside the darkest” three times. First time silence follows. Second time musical humming starts. Third time there’s more auto tune and synth. The start of a song maybe? And then we get that last stretch where the thoughts get even darker, the voice gets lower, then the song finally transitions to music. So you literally witness the dark thoughts lead to the beauty of music. And the album follows that structure. 3 dark songs. Pivot point. Then three reflective songs where beauty emerges from darkness. Growth has occurred.

A QUESTION FOR THE MERCURIAL NUMBER 6: Having listened to a lot of Kanye’s discography, seeing how his music has evolved & he has constantly pushed the envelope with his creative ideas without fear. How would you Rank him compared to your favourite artists? Would you give him GOAT status like we do in the hip hop community or is it just completely different?
@luis9112 жыл бұрын
In my opinion Kanye surpasses the GOAT status in hip hop and transcends to one of the GOATS as a musician. Most people who shit on Kanye probably know him for his public antics and likely never listened to his whole discography. He consistently drops highly rated albums while constantly rebuilding himself. No two albums are similar.

Mr Mercurial Number Six please listen to 808s and Heartbreak for us, we’d all love to watch you experience it. 808s is my favorite Kanye album and it is the main Kanye album that influenced Travis Scott who i know you also enjoy his music. Also this is the album Kanye made after his mother tragically passed away and his fiancé of 8 years broke up with him leaving him in despair and depression. This is Kanye’s most sad album and the album that revolutionized the use of autotune in the mainstream of rappers nowadays like Travis Scott. The drums as you would expect are also crazy on this album, Kanye wanted to give them an almost Phil Collins like sound by adding reverb and distorting the 808s because he wanted them to still HIT but at the same time sound dull & lifeless. All and all i can’t wait for this reaction from you and i think you’ll enjoy the production as well as Kanye’s melodies and song making capability. (Also this album is directly after Kanye lost his mom (DONDA), while as the album DONDA is most likely him fully coming to terms with her being gone and him being much more religious. (Kanye’s said multiple times before that his Mom was his favorite person in the world) So you can really hear the pain in this record.

As cheesy, corny and dirty it is, it’s also so damn heavy hitting raunchy yet so fucking clever and definitely one of the heaviest bar that I would describe Kanye as. I love it 🤣 everytime this bar comes up I always make that mean face lmaoooo

this was released a week before kids see ghosts, also apart of the five albums kanye produced in 5 weeks: this, KSG, ktse, daytona, and nasir

For me this album is a time capsule, every time I listen to it I am reminded of memories and feelings I was going through when this album came out.

Now after all the new Kanye you really need to go back to some older Kanye for the incredible comparison between his different eras. I recommend Graduation. It’s when he realized that he can take his sound further while still keeping the soul of his original production style

One of your best reaction. You just love music and it's awesome. Ye is a great album, underrated af with no reason and yep you should consider it as a pt.1 of KSG. Much love.

Great seeing you react to this. Personally one of the Kanye albums that spoke to me the most, also seeing the Pelican and Hot penguin back was amazing! Would be cool to see you explore some of the albums made by Injury Reserve

Such an underrated album, today just got to platinum (hell of a coincidence) for me is an important moment in Kanye´s life and in his dicography.

I really dig wat you said at the end about the limiting factor! The indecision surrounding the creative process is a pain because of all the possibilities. We should all just make stuff, put it out in the world and move on! ✌😁

I really dig that you got to the end!

tbh this is the first Kanye album I've listened to. A lot of people don't like rap music. If I show them a rap album to listen to, it is certainly ye. Great, soulful and simplistic instrumentals paired with great vocals and clever lyrics, all in a short runtime. When they finish, then it's time to listen to some Yeezus. ON SIGHT

Kids see ghosts is my favorite too, I would definitely show someone that. Ye is nice too though.

You talk about this album possibly being your favourite from kanye. The great thing about his discography is that whoever you ask which album is their favourite, you will always get a different answer and his fans will perfectly accept it:) Great video as always mr 6!

This album follows Ye's mental health cycle. 1) I thought...- It starts with just a voice in the back of his mind that gets louder and scarier 2) Yikes- Is the manic episode 3) All mines- His well documented sex addiction tied to his episodes 4) Wouldn't leave- Is the fall out 5) No mistakes- Intial relief that Kim stood by him 6) Ghost Town- Hopefulness for the future 7) Violent Crimes- Envisioning his future but being apprehensive that his mistakes will catch up.
