In a word, no. This game is what we call in the used car business, a good 20 footer. From a distance it looks pretty good, even great. But, once you get up close and under the hood, you find a lot of problems. Anyone excited about this game, go ahead and get the free demo and play it. You'll learn quickly what I am talking about. AI pathing issues, clothes clipping, a character customization suite that is actually rather good, but why? These characters rarely ever show up in your game. Nondescript tutorial objectives that lead to confusion. No rhyme or reason to what movies/genres do well. No way to look at and compare staff members to see who is better (the GUI is so tiny, it is hard to tell if somebody is a little bit better at something than somebody else). That's not to say it is a boring game. It is fun, I like the premise. But, as is the case with a lot of these games, it needs a lot of work and I'll need to see proof of it being done before I'd consider paying for the experience.

Oh, and by the way, the movies you make and get to watch are pretty bad. Characters talk over each other's lines, the lines don't make sense at times. One of them even goes on and on about how the rest of the movie scenes and props needed aren't in the game because this is just a "demo" and they just aren't in the game yet. Then they go on to repeat this about 5 more times. Like...we get it. ha .ha...ha.... I would like to see a lot more effort put into this aspect, since the whole notion is about you making movies.

No AI pathing issues on the greater lot in my time in the demo, but during the movie playback the actors would either walk straight through set objects or walls. One character even ended up standing on top of the pool table in the bar set, with her body through the lights. The AI voices are horrendous, though. I had hair clipping rather than clothes clipping, along with weird hair physics. The customization suite seems like you'd have to create a multitude of characters in order for them to show up since there's already a fairly diverse looking cast of characters in the game. Idk what you mean by the tutorial. It's straightforward and teaches you how to play the game. Movies do well based on their rating, they get rated better based on your crew's skills. The crew skills are fairly easy to differentiate from, either by mousing over them directly or looking at the bars in their profile on the drop down list in the top left. Their skills seem to be designed to leave some room for vagueness, i.e. trying to put someone on a job that's so slightly better than you can't really tell if they actually are better has little to no difference. It's definitely not a complete experience as it is, and may never be complete.

@@epmcgee The tutorial skips over some details in a few places, thinking you already know the steps to accomplish a task when they haven't walked you through those other steps first. I am not the only one who had this issue. I am not sure if it was this walkthrough this person made, or another one I watched, but they literally get hung up on one of the goals because the game doesn't actually tell you what to do for a couple of steps. As for the crew skills, the drop down menu is hard to read because it is so tiny. You have no idea who might be slightly better at something than somebody else. I saw nothing when I moused over a person. Some number representation for the skill bar might be helpful, or a larger UI, or when you scroll over somebody's tiny image in that list it brings up a larger screen that shows you their details. Of course movies do well based on their star rating, but why does the same crew with the same skill level with the same rating on the script produce vastly different results depending on the genres you select? You'd think that they would all score the same, but they do not. I've tested this repeatedly. The same rated script does not produce the same star rating for movies of different genres. So what is the rhyme or reason for certain combos getting higher scores than others if everything else is the same? Same actors, same crew, same script rating...so what is the variable? Sheer dumb luck? Well, no, because if I keep re-creating the same high scoring film over and over again, it always scores high, and the others always score lower. Since this game came out, I have seen a few others popping up that are nearly identical to it. So yes, I feel somebody got the source code of the game these are all based off of, and this is a quick polish and dump for a quick buck.

Looks like you need a minimum of a 4GB graphics card that is DirectX 11 capable. Depending on whether or not you have a laptop or something similar it could run on that. If you want to relive The Movies you can always get it from myabandonware in the meantime. If you want a modern spiritual successor try Blockbuster Inc. This game needs a lot of work

Hey Kanz, haven't said hi and told you how awesome your channel is in awhile. I like what I see here, it does seem like a perfect The Movies Spiritual Successor. I would like to see a movie Artchitect-like game as well. This brings up the one Architect game I really liked, which you probable have played, Another Brick in the Mall, which doesn't get the love it deserves. Anyways, enough of my rambling, keep up the great work, you always make my day when I watch your channel...

This game is highly incomplete and The Movies does quite a few things better than this game. I'd recommend Blockbuster Inc. for a modern spiritual successor.

Blockbuster Inc, Hollywood Animal, The Executive - A Movie Industry Tycoon are some of the others coming soon, with varying degrees of tycoon-dom. One of the classics, Hollywood Mogul, is purportedly getting a sequel in Hollywood Mogul 4 (also known as Hollywood Movie Studios).

You're thinking of Blockbuster Inc. The two games look very similar. Blockbuster has a Prologue that is still available and that game is coming out June 6th.

In terms of looks and overall gameplay there's The Movies from the 2000s, and the more modern Blockbuster Inc. The building, hiring, and lot are distinctly like The Movies.
