poweramp saturation is the best thing ever imo. noone really needs 100 watts, even with 50 you'd have to be lucky to ever play a venue large enough to push it into the poweramp. 15-30 watts is the perfect wattage imo.

Agreed, the amp is much more important, than what guitar. Any guitar with humbuckers will get the job done. Some old school metal even used single coils.

Actually the manufacturer is called Makosamp, and this little beast is not that expensive, in the basic version (according to the offer I got, for shipping within the country). I don't want to spoil deals for Makosamp but this amp is one hell of a good deal.

You haven't tried them, so you couldn't know... I've played a Kaos Hatred Custom (the company was called Makos back in the day), and it was totally brilliant, it had a bit too much gain for my taste but it was mindblowingly loud with a Tex Heats filled Krank cab

I think the idea behind the amp is that you crank it to get the power section "sag" that makes sludge metal so popular. Therefor, the 15 watt output section.

Very true. I do like his tone, And if I think about anything I play with I always have about the same tone also(not his of course I mean my own), so this is a valid point. Also, I think the tone comes a lot from the players hands so that might have something to do with it.

I think generally bright-ish humbuckers is kind of a must though. If the attack of the strings can't get through the distortion, you don't get the chug and attitude through. It doesn't matter that much what pickups they are though, as long as they aren't dark and muddy they will lend themselves to nice metal guitar. Then the amp is pretty important, but you can "cheat" that usually with a boost.

i agree with you dude, i have the tremonti se and i play metal.....i have no problem downtuning and it stays in so its definetly is adequate....i played a 3,000 dollar PRS in guitar center, downtuned it, and played it through a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier....that was amazing!!!

Ola is busy with FSU,i'll try to explain objectivly,despite i'm the designer of the Sludge:)All of our amps have a completly different design approach than the Oranges.The Oranges are all abourt mids.Grainy,compressed, fuzzy sound alone, with a huge peak in the middle freq.section.Our amps are designed for fast transient response, tight sound, no fuzz, smooth highs. It s matter of taste,what suits you better. I woudn't pick Sludge for stoner, nor Orange for djent or thrash :)

Lol, two more words: Bareknuckle Painkillers! Dropped one in the bridge position of my '06 Custom 24 10 top, really pushes mids and tightens the low end, adding some sweet percussive smack to rhythms riffs. It only works 'okay' with the stock HFS in the neck. I lost a little bit of the classic creaminess on lead stuff. PRS in general is just a solid, heavy, highly resonant instrument. Just as good as anything else.

best thing ever. 20 watts is about the perfect wattage for an amp if we are honest. only few lucky guys need more, and even those get mic'd up anyways. and the best thing about it: they're rather cheap and small so you can get your own personal lunchboxamp collection \o/ (my plans: krank rev jr pro, jet city jca22 and maybe this guy right here. could take a while and a lot of saving up to get them, but hell that would be awesome! perfect for a studio too.)

That is if your not using a solid state. Solid state amps will almost always sound MUCH worse when the volume is louder. Especially if its a low watt one. In this case though, this amp would sound killer live :P

only directly from KAOS. the basic model you see in the vid costs 700 €, wich is about 900$ + shipping. power reduction or the 30 watts version is going to cost some more. these are custom boutique amps, not real bargains

never felt like the TOM on my js32 kelly (300 bucks guitar) was wobbling in any way. the TOM gives my wrist more room to pick, that's why i prefer them to hardtails. apart from the look.

I think the Tremonti PRS is more than adequate for "metal"... not all metal needs to be played on an Ibanez 7-string.

well if they want a 7 string, ibanez is just the way to go for a many people. some people dont like schecter; often cuz their necks but i actually like em esp/ltd; some people dont like for whatever reason, i used to think they sucked but at the same time dont, but their good bc rich and dean, they look cool but arent that good and the build quality isnt that good ibanez makes 7 strings (if person wants a 7), often has low price models, many people like thin necks etc... its a good choice

my full shreds are rather dark, but in combination with the right amp it sounds fucking brutal- it all just has to fit together. bright guitar+bright pickups +bright amp= dentist drill, warm guitar+ dark pickups + rectifier = pile of mud.
