As a greek person, i love that people are still finding new ways to interpret the myths creatively while still showing love to the original story. Even though its not 100% accurate its fresh, unique bur also faithful enough. The only thing that kind of ticked me off was the implication the the original olympians and titans before hand were mortal, its not a bad twist but it brought a few things into question for me, like how do the different realms like the underworld exist or how do they have supernatural powers etc.

@@TheMythologyGuy1 Possible weird Ouroboros effect? Like say, either A they already existed yet in some weird way had an existing personification of them on Earth that started their Pantheon without knowing who they were maybe & they just matched that god, who maybe later takes over those personifications? Or maybe B it was humans who were seen in a certain manner in the past & seems as beyond humans, which were then worshiped leading them to gain divinity of sorts & which then caused them to have already existed? Probably someone else could come up with something better, but I just now thought of these as possibly why & do find them an interesting thought.

For the Dionysus liking Ariadne suddenly I agree it wasn’t set up for both of them. But I think it was set up for Dionysus, at that point of the series, Dionysus was slowly discovering what love truely is. Then suddenly she sees this woman, who is emotional about her brother, breaking blood ties to his father because of how much she loved her brother. Ngl it’s a bit of stretch but it’s something. A setup for “why” Dionysus would pursue Ariadne

With Dionysus and Ari I think it was a little set up. Dionysus has an issue with parasocial attachment, as seen with how all Orpheus had to do to gain his favour was be good at singing. So when Dionysus saw Ari not only kill the person who had ruined her life but stick a giant middle finger to Zeus, he most likely confused a high level of admiration with love that will later blossom into actual love.

It was a very short show - only few episodes made the complete story. I do not see any sense in considering the skin colour of the characters. After all it all takes place in modern times, modern world, with technology, jewelery and entertainment at current state. It does not regard the myth 'ages' so skin colour is irrelewant. Dionises was very fun in the show. And Jeff Goldblum - it was hard for me to wrap my mind around this character he played . He's awesome :)

So he "rules" by being the giver of life? That's where my idea falls

I loved how the cereal Riddy (Eurydice) buys has a little toy bee in it and when she dies Orpheus opens it and throws the cereal everywhere, this is a reference to Aristaeus either a shepherd or the Greek god of beekeeping as he chased Eurydice in the myth mentioned in Virgil’s ‘Georgics’ as Aristaeus (Aristaios in the Greek spelling as Aristaeus is the Latin spelling of the god of beekeeping) chased Eurydice making her not see the snake that killed her. This later affects Aristaeus because all his bees die (as he is being punished for the death of Eurydice) so he has to wrestle the old man of the sea (Proteus) to get answers (which he does). So I thought that was a cool hint to the myths also. Also, I believe Aristaeus mentioned having caused Eurydice’s death and then having to wrestle Proteus because his bees die is not just a shepherd with the same name as the god but rather the god himself (I may be wrong). As many people in Greek Mythology share the same name but they often are completely different other than sharing a name. However, two Aristaeus’ who are beekeepers seem like a coincidence so I like to believe they are the same person both the god of beekeeping.

Just finished the season and holy sh*t, this might be one of my favourite shows of all time, I absolutely love this show, it's dark, it's thrilling, its dramatic, has a small bit of comedy and all-round a very cool and interest representation of Greek Mythology in the modern day and just an amazing show and entertaining show all together. The performances by all the actors are phenomenal, and Jeff Goldblums Zeus and Janet McTeers Hera do some of the most abhorrent things I've seen on TV (the baby and... Dennis 😢😢😢, NOOOO DENNIS) The characters are performed amazingly, Stephen Dillanes, as Prometheus, who narrates the show as well as has a large role in it outside of narration, is probably the highlight for me. It is always great to see him on screen. The show both appears as if some stories in Greek myth have already happened and are popular stories, but they also save some Greek myths to be set in modern times, which i find really interesting. the modernisation of Orpheus and Eurydice was really enjoyable, and i loved how they represent these stories that are now happening in present-day Crete This show was amazing to watch and may be one of my favourite shows of all time 9/10 Stephen Dillane is now my fancast for a live action Mimir

There's a webseries on youtube called No Evil which is about a group of anthropomorphic spirits who are a blend of American literature (mainly wizard of oz)/history and indigenous mythology (with Aztec being the one focused on) dealing with dueling villages, four artifacts based off of the four tezcatlipocas, a rattle snake spirit with DID, a land of the dead that had elements of the wizard of OZ, and so many more.
I would say it's more like Greek myths in a modern setting. Like when they do Shakespeare but with 1920 set dressing.

The only big difference or "inaccuracy" I noticed that you didn't already point out was Hera cheating on Zeus. I think one of my favorite parts of the series was the interpretation of Eurydice and Orpheus. It becomes clear through the series, to me at least, that orpheus did not truly love her as an equal. She was always the muse for him, but she was never an equal. He loved the feelings she made him feel, but never gave her the love of a true partner. His love was possessive, he never asked her if she wanted a song named after her, if she wanted to be on the posters, if she wanted to be with him in the afterlife. He made those decisions out of his love, but never once made a decision with her. It is a really well written one sided relationship and one of my favorite parts. (Edit) and to make it clear, i am not saying it was all on orpheus. Eurydice could have spoken up, yes. But someone in that position can really struggle with the idea of breaking someone who so clearly loves you so much in their way.

On the note of the Heracles vs Hercules topic, I have been in that argument before trying to explain that it's Heracles. But hey maybe for this series Hercules could have made more scene to use the name more people recognize, like those who watched things like the 90's TV series, the Disney movie or more recently the MCU (as feat in Thor 4 post credit) like it's a more well known brand name. I know it's Heracles a few others I'm sure, still Hercules feels like a brand name people use more than Heracles. My take away from Dionysus seeing Ari stabbing her dad scene was a reflection of how disillusioned he felt with his dad in the series. It's just my read as Ari feels so betrayed by their father and lashing out by stabbing Minos, where as Dionysus at that stage was trying to seek approval and just being reminded he isn't his brother so he sees her emote how he was feeling, and then he just blurted out about how he felt he was in love. Not amazing writing but as someone with daddy issues it's how I mentally translated the scene XDDD Also I'm not Greek in the slightest. My ass is Maori lol so I was watching this show for Cliff Curtis, my mum who was also Maori used to tell me and my bro Greek myth stories when were kids, so it was a full on nostalgia bait that worked and got me watching. Cliff was just hilarious even though I know it's Greek myth based, seeing Poseidon call Minos a kiss ass in a kiwi accent had me cackling. Never would I have thought I'd see what felt like a throw back to my Xena watching days.

I look him up. Trigger warning for rape and transphobia: Caeneus was a beautiful maiden who turned down many suitors, one day, she caught the attention of Poseidon who proceeded to rape her. Then offered to grant her any desire she wanted, Caeneus asked to be made a man so she wouldn’t have to go through such a traumatic experience again. Poseidon granted her desire and made him invulnerable (I can’t remember why though). Caeneus became a skilled warrior, then one day he crossed paths with a herd of centaurs who mocked him for originally being a woman, Caeneus fought the centaurs who quickly discovered his invulnerability, so to defeat him they buried him alive under several trees.

I know this comes down to personal perception, but the Dyionisus of the show is pretty close to what the greeks would invision him as (+ the mordern astethic), he is one of the young gods, the youngest Olimpian, and pretty much in shape. He is comparable to Heracles in a lot of cases as he is the closes of the gods to a hero, he is also associate with Alexander the Great. Greeks do depict him with a beard and looking older in some pottery but never "out of shape". I'm pretty sure that the beer belly image is more reflective of the renaisance than the classical period. So I was happy that we were getting a Dyonisus that is more in line with myth instead of going for the cliché image of "god of wine". I'm courious if in future seasons they are going to play into his connection with the dead, as he brings back Ariadne and his mom, and sometimes even he himself dies and comes back. There's also the fact that in Orphic tradition he is the true heir of Zeus, and I don't know if they are planning to do somithing with that, as he seem to want to join the "let's destroy the gods" plot by the end.

Any thoughts of turning to the classical age of mythology? And by that I, of course, mean the old Kevin Sorbo Hercules and Lucy Lawless Xena.

A question: have you ever covered Hades, the videogame? If not, are you interested? It's kind of a long game, and a bit controversial in some circles, so I get if you wouldn't, but it is such a fun take on the myths, I feel you would love it

I gave the show 3 episodes, bur I couldn't continue, I found Riddy very unlikable and the plot non-sensical. Very interested to he your take on this show!

Yea, I kinda found myself waiting through the underworld scenes cause nothing really happened for a while. Plus the romance subplot was meh.

If you're going to do an inaccuracy video on Kaos then I think you should mention that Caeneus is a Lapith and not an Amazon in the show. King Minos and his family and Queen Hecuba and her family are not contemporaries in myth. Glaucus is a son of Minos and Pasiphae and thus a brother to Ariadne but Glaucus' fate is really different.

First, the Olympian gods rarely demand human sacrifices. They love sex, wine, and parties; demanding sacrifices is hardly their style. Second, while the Greek gods may pull the strings of kings and heroes, they rarely interfere with how humans govern their kingdoms. Humanity wouldn’t survive under the chaos of the Titans-they're pure madness. Lastly, even if they were to burn down Olympus, what would they replace it with? Oh, please. We all know where this is headed: a new god exerting control over mortals' lives for nearly a thousand years

I'm glad you liked the show. Of course, it has checkboxes and I assumed the gods and goddesses are bi-sexuals. But great show still.

The show is British and they do colorblind casting in British programming, which they have done for years.

A lot of y’all in the comments don’t know what woke means. Also a lot of Greek mythology characters are gay and not everyone was straight in the mythology. And I’m pretty sure not everyone was white or light skin in Greece some people were darker or tan.
