This @islandthrive segment is part of the "Southern Island Series" where we examine the artisanal building practices of the Polynesians of Kapingamarangi Atoll. Enjoy this fascinating method off joinery and home building with only twines and tying. After many years of living with Kapinga people and seeing the great value of this technique, I frequently use it myself. Here is an alternative to nails, screws, dowels, and joinery whish is easy and inexpensive. Originally all the fibers were handmade by the Polynesians, but now many varieties of recycled twines will do just fine. In this video, they are tying with #1 nylon of various gauges recycled from the fishing industry...much of it washing up as junk on the Atoll. We would enjoy your comments and discussion on the merits and weaknesses of this technique, and just let us know what you think about the style. Please comment, like, and subscribe to see more of this series where I tour the islands of Kapinga and Nukuro, and for more interesting content! Thanks!
