It's mind boggling to get to see this guy rip around these old classics. Truly get a feel for every one of these bikes. Could only imagine getting an opportunity to work there!

I own one of these earth shakers, honestly you can feel the ground. My first big-bore-2-stroke -experience was 1975-76 on a mx360, a kid from Hawaii moved to our apartments, his dad was U.S. Customs. His dad told me if l could get it running l could ride it til it sold, scared me, however, that fear drove my desire to harness/control that power. It's like opening a door, squeeze more throttle & see what is behind the door, under the bed scary, it was amazing. Fearful fun to the fullest, send it did l way back then.

Such a nice bike. Ahh the old days. I was too young for this big of a bike but the 100/ 175 were as good ! Love seeing these roll thru. 🇺🇸
@rogerdittus29522 жыл бұрын
Had one in the late 70s, so did at least two of my friends. Don't off-road any longer but the old mono looks like such a low rider now compared to the last dirt bike I had (2016 KTM xcw 250). That old bike couldn't even roll over many of the trails current dirtbikes take fir granted, but it's really pretty!

I remember these beasts back in the day..If you couldnt afford the latest best and expensive big bore YZ360B offering from Yamaha then this was certainly the next best machine for you to race on..This 400 and the 250 were everywhere going back 47 years ago😯😯

A friend of mine had that bike in 1975, I was 15 years old and I had a Hodaka 100cc Dirt Squirt. The engine on those bikes was great, but the suspension sucked, the mono shock only had about 4 inches of usable travel back then, and it would bottom out on even a small jump. And the front shocks were not much better, they only had about 5 inches of usable travel. But that motor was kick ass, it had a lot of power, ran forever, the powerband was awesome, and it was bulletproof. I rode it many times, and it was really fun, as long as you did not hit any jumps with it.

Bought one new when I was 16. Unless my bike was an exception, the motor is NOT bulletproof. Some of my gears stripped after a while - I think the bike had too much power for the gearbox, and I heard about others having the same problem, but I did love the bike.

I still have one of these, they're so fast bikes, can ride it like a MX or hammer it like a YZ. If it had good suspension it would be good.
@offgridliving41282 жыл бұрын
I also had one of those as a kid. Use to ride it at the Oregon dunes. Had to make a spacer to lift the rear so the paddle tire would snag on the rear fender at full compression.

Me too! I had assumed the MX model range pre-dates the YZ (which I assumed started from 73, same as RD, TX, DT, TZ, etc) BUT this is already a 400, and MY 75/B comp decals.. and first open class YZ was an earlier 360cc.
@luisarreola94202 жыл бұрын
I had a 1976 YZ 250 C and a friend had a MX 250, there were no difference, same motor, same parts, only difference was the paint scheme YZ had the bumble bee color and the MX was white and red. The YZ had the canister forks, the MX didn’t.

Or better yet with low suspension, convert to street bike lol 400 2 stroke with lights and grippy tires would be a street racer for sure. Eat huge 4 stroke street bikes up to 90 or 100mph with street gearing and low weight of that thing

Big bro yr so lucky you HV rode everything man you tell how much power that beast has gt cuz yr big o boy I CD tell it pull wheelies nyhn but throttle I've been courious do you feather that back brake or I bet you keep that rt foot whr you ND it just in case ?

The bike is a 76 at the newest 76 was the first year of mono...it may have been manufactured in 75 but that bike is a 76 77 model
@robertmccool15435 ай бұрын
Not really, they did make a few 1976 possibility but it was the exact same bike however all yellow. This was sort of a pre 75 release. Remember, Yamaha had a few different models at this time. The super rare yz250 ( strap on tank ) twin shock semi factory bike the public could buy, then some yellow mono shock yz's that were yellow not the factory bike, had a square cylinder head. The 77 bike had the kyb air chambers on top of the fork tubes. 78, all new frame design.
