It's a trip how Honda changed the sprocket from the clutch side ( early models ) to the throttle side for a few years '79' being one of them. It gives the rear wheel that "Maico" look. It must feel a little different exiting the turns. The bike you have here is a dream bike for anyone who has owned an "Elsinore". Absolutely amazing.

I'm 64 and that bike would be a dream come true to own. Unfortunately I had a 76 or 77 RM250 in 1985 that I bought for 400 dollars it was like new with the paint on the tank 100 percent in tack. I moved to Florida and had my parents sell it. I most likely got about nothing for it 😢😢😢😢😢. Nothing is better than oldschool like these bikes.

My 1st bike, young adult was a 76 or 78? RM 250. Bike was like a lightswitch, nose would plow a lot. Probably wasnt seated right. Late bought the cleanest PE250 to this day Ive ever seen from a retired Pro in the late 80s. Works shocks it had more clearance otherwise stock. Put a lightweight piston, Boyesen reeds in and repacked the muffler. Rode the hell out of that thing for many yrs not once did it break down. Including all day 80 mile off road rides in a pack. Good memories with that thing

Out of all the bikes I've owned, this was my favorite, the bike was super light and easy to toss around and not overly powerful.

250s were just right. Im a big guy and after the 3rd time I rode an RM400 I bought with a couple buddies I gave it to one of them. Set up for desert , dry lake riding here in Ca. It was too much, not 1 of us wasnt thrown off that thing. Brutal power...happier with a 250 I could ride hard and not kill myslef

I laugh every time you rip up and down the street and doing wheelies, Brings back memories of when I was a kid doing this while looking to see if any cops were around, just seeing what I could get by with before someone called the police on me. I remember one time in Mesquite Texas I put expansion chambers on my 1972 H1 Kawasaki triple ripped it up and down the street duct into my buddies garage shut the door and watched the cops going crazy up and down the streets looking for me they even got a helicopter out trying to find me. I did not come out until the next morning.

That DG pipe is a work of art. That's gonna really help the rpms climb higher, faster. Had a 3 wheeler with the same engine, and it was dangerous. Within a matter of weeks, nobody else even wanted to ride it. All were ascared. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
@gordocarbo16 күн бұрын
Those early 3 wheelers were fun, remember the early 200, 250s. To a then kid that was crazy fast for me. Knew how to not turn one but looking back, even in the dirt if I tried Id have died. lol
@andrewbecker370016 күн бұрын
With those big round soft atv tires they all came with back then. The gearing and top end speed had to be maybe 55-60mph maximum. If you put modern quad racing paddle tires on one with the right spockets/gearing selection. The 250cc we had would've been wicked. The tires and gearing were the problem. Great for work, shitty for fun.

My buddy had one in 79. He rode pro. It had Fox air shocks and Simon forks. Best motor in class. I rode an RM. what it needed was that swing arm. I could watch the stock one flex following him.
@gordocarbo16 күн бұрын
Had a 77 and 78 RM. By the time Id buy one the swingarm needed attention they would get slop in them. Miss being able to buy a dirtbike in decent shape for a couple hundred, ride for yrs and sell for the same price.

That was my 3rd dirt bike I ever had. Definitely didn’t look like that it had a plastic gas tank off I don’t even know what and spray painted black . My dad used to get stuff for free from other farmers around the area and I would piece bikes together and that’s what I had to ride . I loved that bike and learned a lot on it . I didn’t look the coolest especially since this was in 2001 but makes me appreciate everything I have and what I’m able to give my children. I don’t think they understand how lucky they are having new bikes but I do know I kept my word that if I ever had kids they would always have nice dirt bikes no matter what.
