I am so impressed. I have never seen such a realistic looking sugar rose. You really studied the shape of a real rose in order to understand the anatomy so well. Stunning....absolutely stunning.

What gumpaste recipe do you use? Also how do you make it so it isn't dry to start with?

Kara, Your roses are exquisite! I do have a question about the Magic Model. After making the cone, do you use glue to attach and secure to the wire?

Stunning roses. I am confused by the non-edible cone center. What is the good of the rose being edible if the center isn't? I like to tell people that the flowers are edible but in this case they would not be? Why not use all crepe paper or something else if they can't be eaten anyway. I don't think people would peel off just the petals to eat.

No sugar flowers should be eaten. The gumpaste is rock hard when it dries and is utterly flavorless. Also, you're using write and petal dusts which are food safe but non-edible. No cakers ever suggests anyone eat these. This is decor meant to be removed and kept as a keep-sake before serving.

It's awesome!! Thanks a million times for sharing! Just one question, correct me if I'm wrong - the finished yellow rose at the end of the video is not the same as the one you made in the tutorial, right? Or at least it has more petals? Did you add them the same way as those before? Or did you use wired petals? :)

+Mona Dotzler Correct, it was another rose from the bunch I was doing. It was the just the most photogenic one for my final photos :) And I don't wire petals. I continue on just like this for additional rows of petals; but after this stage that I complete here, with the 5 large petals, I allow it to dry for a few hours before going in and adding more of the same large sized petals to the bottom again. I leave all foam intact as I continue to work. Then I bring it upright and add more foam, tack petals in with sugar glue as needed. Going to that extend is more extensive than most people will need to go with sugar flowers, but the one in the photo was a stand alone rose for one of 3 mini cakes. The other had smaller groupings. Good eye ;)

+Kara's Couture Cakes Wow thanks for the quick and detailed answer! So far I wire the largest petals, but I'm not really satisfied with that method, that's why I asked. Well, wayyy to go and a lot to learn for me before my roses look as perfect as yours! ;)
