KARA IS SENDING STEEP KICKERS// MTB JUMP PROGRESSION

In this video I am teaching Kara to hit a steep kicker on her MTB in the skatepark. Kara is a complete MTB beginner but she is progressing so fast and for me teaching her its been really rewarding seeing her progress. The skatepark is the perfect environment for this because the ramps are steep but they are safe with a clear run up, no gap to clear and a nice flat, safe landing.
We started on the basics and progressed through beginner MTB tricks, learnt how to ride corners, hills and common bike park features including tabletop jumps and drop off's, sent a line of gap jumps also know as dirt jumps or doubles and now in this video sending wooden kickers!

i taught my homie that used to race bikes how to jump at the skatepark. he was used to long jumps with mellow lips. i basically just made him flyout of quarters to flat, trying each time to get higher in the air. it translated very well to the dirtjumps. you use your legs for the most part to jump this type of stuff

I love the fact that this video is to show Kara learning the steep kicker, but over 2/3 of the video is Tom shredding it. I would be disappointed, but we did see Kara being scared to do the jump at first, then going through with it, and finally being able to do it. Beyond that, she's already there. So yeah, I guess it only took 3 minutes to show how she got there. I'm still so jealous.... :-)

Just showing you guys some love in the comments. I'm 37 and since having a young family I don't get out on MTB trails or long road rides anymore. However, I do take my toddler to the skatepark twice I week. So I've grabbed a BMX and I'm slowly learning the basics (my little girl thinks I'm so cool). I can really identify with Cara's apprehensiveness, I'm finding these videos really useful. I WILL NAIL THE DISASTER ONE DAY!

After watching this video, I think that her problem (and it's also mine, which I want to correct) is that she wants to jump in front of her, but the curve of the jump sends her up. I think that the movement of the body and mind should follow the curve and therefore want to go upwards and not forward. To take height makes us afraid but it is that makes this kind of jump so to want to go in another direction than that which the kicker gives us can unbalance us, destabilize us... I'm going to test that this afternoon.

Tested and approved, all you have to do is decide to follow the shape of the curve and therefore go upwards. The fact that you think about it makes the body move naturally and the jump is done cleanly and with a sense of security. The easy way is to think of the jump as a step up. Too happy to have solved my problem by watching the slow-motion clips in this video.👌
