Thanks for posting this. Kara Walker is an amazing artist. It was so nice to hear her thoughts.

She is an artist and like real artist describing their process is really. Not possible. Even Freud say it wasn’t possibly to look into the mind of an artist. I have learned a lot listening to her. She is a storyteller. Painting was the entrance way to get here where she is today. Her tolls are storytelling tools.

Since I first saw Ms. Walker's work at The Hammer Museum, Westwood, CA early in 2000's, all my creative pursuits (writing, social justice advocacy, fluid painting, etc.) have been prompted and inspired by the nexus of her visual and the text of Professor Toni Morrison. Any time there is new material available, I am made gloriously happy for the exposure to truth about our culture.

A riff on Matisse and Josephine Baker as Professor Walker's response to a 19th century European art installation: Once again my intellect is challenged as I have no idea what she possibly might be seeking to communicate and to reveal. I will be working on exploring this for the foreseeable future. That's what art contributes to my life. Thx to KW!

I like that she plays with different mediums. Her post modern approach on defining what art is while keeping the same theme, keeps her work interesting

Thank you! Why is the police car there? It's really bothering me that it's there in the window the whole time.

the police car is there to remind us that we are prisoners of war or they are their to protect her and others considering her truth telling art.

The police car to me is deeply symbolic in this piece especially since the original use of American police was to catch run away slaves -- a history to this day still unresolved and quite active despite the codified elimination of slavery in America.

@@DariceDavisjprocks94 " the original use of American police was to catch run away slaves" This is an absolute falsehood. You really need to get an education.
