I sang this when I was 11 years old, at school in a concert for spring that year, which was 1975, at Bewdley High School, in Worcestershire UK. I'm now 54, coming 55 in August. I have never forgotten the emotional way this was performed in the 1968 film, Oliver. My mother and other parents didn't either! A standing ovation. I performed it with piano only, but now with this version, I still do. Soprano at the time, but now a bit deeper, but no pitch change. Thanks whoever uploaded this version. Love to hear from you. I Love this song, it is beautifully composed , it pulls every heart string and I can certainly elate to this song and how the character Oliver feels but in reality as I have NEVER EVER known who my birth mother is, I do not know what she looks like, feels like and I have often wondered what my mother would have thought of me and I thank her for giving me a life, when I have the opportunity to sing this I really do cry. God bless all those who have never seen their mother like me and those who have lost their mother through other very tragic circumstances.

30 years ago I played orchestra (clarinet, sax) for a college production of Oliver. This was one of the nicest songs in the arrangement. Very challenging score to play, I might add.

I tried to sing it, but when I came to "who I close my eyes to see" I just broke out in tears!! Imagine you don't know who your mother was, how she looked like and how she had been! And then see Oliver's little sad face, also crying...doesn't it break your heart too?

I used to love ithis song, but my vocal coach keeps making me practice it over and over week after week! I am starting to get tired of it :( Its a shame because its a really nice song too...by the way, can anyone tell me what level of song this is?
