Very surprise to see a senior Black belt master instruct a student to follow a kickwith a punch while still balancing on one leg. When in the RAF in the 1970s my Tae Kwon Do master a South Korean ex Major who served in the South Korean special forces and when I was instructing my students stated that all punches got their power from a good solid stance. As a punch was far more powerful on making contact if it had the rigidity, locked and being anchored to the ground meant the strike was not just the fist hitting the opponent but the effect of turning the body effectively into a long pole embedded into the ground. Having been in Civil Engineering where I was taught Structural Mechanics and later as a Physics Teacher, the principles of Forces I learnt and taught very much agreed with this point. Also, when doing destruction. i.e. breaking boards and holding them for fellow students I found that ensuring I had a good stance and locking my fist, arm, shoulder, back, hips, leg and foot against the floor I was far more successful in breaking wooden boards. An exception to this, would be the case of a running and jumping fist punch, where the punch would have the energy from the run and downward direction of the punch. I would be very interested to read, especially from far more experienced and senior martial artists than me, their opinion of my thoughts. 감사합니다.

It's good to know there are things he doesn't know. If your front kick is grabbed and your support toes are pointed out slightly, you can retract your leg in a SIDEKICK chamber by CONTINUING THE OUTWARD ROTATION. Then you simply reply with a sidekick. I've seen it done over and over, it supplies a pretty concussive shock. It is more of a Korean technique so old school JKA guys will immediately mentally tune out when seeing it or hearing where it came from. But in the world of flesh and blood, of hitting and getting hit it works, it works, it works, it works. Bonus, when fighters who's kicks get grabbed and they have a good ability to rotate their support leg outwards and pivot their hips as in side kick, I've seen (multiple times) fighters do the pivot simply jump spinning back kick! For my Japanese friends don't just reject it because you heard it from an American and because it's a Korean technique. Humanity is one family, we do better if we look for knowledge in the world.

I notice the planted foot of the Maegeri does not pivot/twist much and stays solid. I see many other Blackbelts from other parts of the world they pivot the planted foot to open the hips but I will copy this version as it looks stronger.

al parecer no, ya que en el video muestrasn varias veces que no es bueno gurar el talon al hacer una patada frontal, aunque que yo sepa si se tiene que girar al hacer una patada lateral

To an experienced martial arts practician, your leg set in that distance may alert them of what is coming. In taekwondo we are taught front kick different from this because our kicks are not supposed to be predicted by the opponent.

Stand zen- kutsu with your knee against a plastic chair or a few inches distance depending on how supple you are. Then kick mae geri without hitting the seat area with the foot or pushing the chair by moving the knee....if you do the chair will move. Place the kicking leg back. When you are OK with this then kick and step over the seat area. This will learn you to kick keeping your base leg still and moving moving forwards for a follow up technique. You will learn and improve quickly....hitting your shin or foot against the chair is painful. Same with mawashi geri just now use the back rest and kick over it👍

Excellent breakdown of technique! is this the same for front snap and front thrust kick? So hips need to be squared and not angled either during launch or firing of kick. This so kick can be retracted strongly and not deflected if caught?

From many kumite sessions I did over 8 years ,I found my most effective way to do mae geri was i used to do a small hop with my non kicking leg as I thrust my kicking leg forward.Dont know why but it seemed to protect my curled back toes on impact.
@briankeiththomas152 жыл бұрын
That's an extra movement though. The idea is to execute maximum power with minimal movement in the first place. That extra step you take could mean the difference between an effective technique and a big mistake.
