Try to look at it this way; to most, martial arts is the ultimate form of expression. for him, it is indeed all about the discipline, it's freed him fro the psychological weight of his handicap. If that IS his passion, if it fills his soul and makes him feel human, then he's unequivocally a true martial artist. Karate grandmaster; never. Seriously, would you call someone sitting in front of a piano, making silly faces and not actually playing anything a pianist just because they love piano music? Even if it is not their fault... No, you would not. And if they loved piano music so much, they would contribute to it in a way that requires them to put effort, not to rely on people's pity - like, for example, studying music theory and writing piano music. The same with the clown in the video - if he loved karate so much, instead of mocking it like this, he could contribute to it in some meaningful way - like writing a book on it, writing a film script, doing some scientific research on its history, etc. But people's pity wouldn't do his job for him if he decided to do something like that.

Breaking stacks of boards and full contact ring sparring was normal there. I was just a yellow belt but I realized how much I didn’t understand Karate at all, or the purpose behind any of it. @@filo5347 Is that really a question you want answered or are you just making an argument? Look... Karate can be taken as a sport for competition and/or for self defense. As for competition, the girls obviously didn't even try and were told to take a dive, how is that competition? Now as for self defense, we all know that those moves couldn't work against a real attacker, even a child can see that. You liberals always want to give awards or in the case a black belt away out of pity, taking away the meaning of the belt from those who really did better. I feel sorry for those girls that were told that they need to take a dive to call it "good sportsmanship" or whatever the reason. You all should be ashamed.

Well, I guess he paid an arm and a leg for that black belt... twice. (Is it black, though? It looks dark brown to me at certain moments.) Seriously, this is a disgrace. What if you saw him sitting before a piano and making silly faces? Would you think he was a pianist? As I said under a different video featuring this guy, I have nothing but respect for people who overcome their disabilities to achieve what they want, but this guy overcame nothing. He only relied on people's pity to get a piece of clothing that only works as a symbol of abilities he doesn't have and can never have. Why would I respect that? It is degrading to him, and it is downright insulting to the martial art he is supposed to love. Flopping around like an angry sack of potatoes is not karate. If he loved the martial art so much, he could, for example, research it carefully and write a book on it - that I would respect. Alas, for doing this he would actually need to put some effort rather than just get what he wants from people who pity him.
