Try to look at it this way; to most, martial arts is the ultimate form of expression. for him, it is indeed all about the discipline, it's freed him fro the psychological weight of his handicap. If that IS his passion, if it fills his soul and makes him feel human, then he's unequivocally a true martial artist. Karate grandmaster; never. But I hold him as a greater martial artist than most people I've met through Jeet-Kun-Do and Tae-Kwon-Do.

Hats off to this guy... He dragged and bounced his balls off that mat for 5 minutes straight and didn't cry... I would have passed out if it was myself. As far as the "fight" goes, what the hell was that? I nearly shit myself when he brushed up against those girls, and they dropped like a rock. What a f**kin world this turned out to be. PS if I lay on the floor and flop around for 5 minutes, can I too get a blackbelt out of pity?

I apologize for my English, but as an athlete I have to express myself. It is sick to let a man win, take pity on him. It's unfair to him. No one tells him the truth, so he lives his false life and leads a false fight, and he may believe that he wins by himself. The truth is, they let him win like that girl. Everyone around applauds and plays this fake game with him. Who disagrees is a bad bad bad man, hates people and kills small puppies. Why did he even fight? What are you talking about? So what's this guy meant to do? Lay back at home feeling sorry for himself? Because people like you take issue with someone doing what they enjoy? If you think Kata is primarily suited to self-defense, I think you don't know too much about martial arts. It may have been considered useful for fighting a very long time ago, but it's far from that now. The shit is a PERFORMANCE art. As a female I had a lot to overcome and was not physically able to do other disciplines like Ju Jitsu and Wing Chung, and my teacher did not go any easier on me for that. What this guy can do, Dave Porter, though, is not rely on people's pity to get a degree he doesn't deserve. Seriously, would you call someone sitting in front of a piano, making silly faces and not actually playing anything a pianist just because they love piano music? Even if it is not their fault... No, you would not. And if they loved piano music so much, they would contribute to it in a way that requires them to put effort, not to rely on people's pity - like, for example, studying music theory and writing piano music. The same with the clown in the video - if he loved karate so much, instead of mocking it like this, he could contribute to it in some meaningful way - like writing a book on it, writing a film script, doing some scientific research on its history, etc. But people's pity wouldn't do his job for him if he decided to do something like that.

What in the world of never ending disability benefit payouts is this - 10th dan in Bullshido?
@BMartin1776

This nonsense of treating seriously disabled as equals has got to stop, its gonna get them hurt for real. I saw vid of a disabled kid "wrestling" and it was heartbreaking bc you knew the other kid was just playing along. Whats even worse is the effect it has on the other person asked to go along, and I KNOW bc I was asked when I wrestled in HS to wrestle a kid who was mentally disabled, but extremely strong. I was told to go out there an wrestle him, not go easy and I did what I was told to do - treat him as an equal. Yes, I won but felt like crap afterwards especially looking over to his mother condoling him!!! STOP ENCOURAGING THIS, its abusive.

Brown belt here. I understand where the mixed opinions are coming from, but this is what I think : its about the art. He won't be able to do actual combat, thats true. Which is why these are special conditions. But he IS doing the right movements, with the appropriate precision. That's what they're applauding. I'm sure this guy knows his limitations.

@ThePhukst1k 10 күн бұрын
Yeah I agree, I’m shocked how many people think he doesn’t perceive his limitations. The demonstration though had me reflecting on my Karate experience. I went to one of those “inclusive pay for a belt” schools when I was a kid. However my mom would often take me to this dojo in the city and that place was intimidating. Breaking stacks of boards and full contact ring sparring was normal there. I was just a yellow belt but I realized how much I didn’t understand Karate at all, or the purpose behind any of it. I got beat up almost every time I went lol. There is so much more to martial arts than being a warrior but I felt the demonstration was too much here.

I state the obvious when I say he cannot perform the motions as they are, but his puts his physical self into the closest possible likeness. How brave, I wonder, to get out and to that. That bravery is a mental blackbelt in itself. This is indeed the most authentic form of Karate I can perceive. It isn't about getting it perfectly right, it's about trying your damned hardest to get as close as possible to it and to show yourself what you are capable of.

Well, I guess he paid an arm and a leg for that black belt... twice. (Is it black, though? It looks dark brown to me at certain moments.) Seriously, this is a disgrace. What if you saw him sitting before a piano and making silly faces? Would you think he was a pianist? As I said under a different video featuring this guy, I have nothing but respect for people who overcome their disabilities to achieve what they want, but this guy overcame nothing. He only relied on people's pity to get a piece of clothing that only works as a symbol of abilities he doesn't have and can never have. Why would I respect that? It is degrading to him, and it is downright insulting to the martial art he is supposed to love. Flopping around like an angry sack of potatoes is not karate. If he loved the martial art so much, he could, for example, research it carefully and write a book on it - that I would respect. Alas, for doing this he would actually need to put some effort rather than just get what he wants from people who pity him.
