What I really like about this series is that it becomes very clearly how important are the basics. And they actually explain and demonstrate why those fundamentals exists. It's not just "do it like this" is "consider this to be able to do this... that produces better results". And for those who disregard kata, in kata you practice time and time and time again these fundamentals. But you have to mean it. You have to reprogram your behavior and natural moves to be able to do them without taking time to "consider X, Y and Z"
In "Black Belt" movie was where I saw Naka-sensei for the first time and in this movie I found why his Oizuki is legendary. His combination between excellent technique, great skeletal alignment and timing results in an Oizuki without comparison. His speed is f*cking spooky! When you think you're seeing coming, you already took it! O____o

Very good and nice but what comes to my mind is that if I create my full competence power to a one strike yes it can be detrimental/fatal to the target but also my hand might get pretty destroyed. Of course in a matter of life and death losing your fist (and this is probably fixable damage if taken care) is not a big deal. I was just parring yesterday, not even full force and now my little finger is pretty much bruised and swollen (yes it was a lesson to me to keep my hand in a fist even in light sparring).

As far as I understand, this is no longer karate. It is considered a serious mistake to lift the heel of the back foot off the ground. But in boxing or kendo, that's right. So what do we see? but the very essence, if you do not pay attention to some things, is very interesting
