@@distinctloafer to say karate means nothing, not all style is the same efficiency, (Kata it's not very realistic of street fignting) Especially, depending on the style of karate the learning time can be more or less long for creat an equivalant fighter skill. Other martial arts or boxing can give you a level much faster. On the other hand no school is effective alone. You said because this man is good in UFC Karate is good... lol NO ! Already a case is not representative, then this guy also has an exelent level of JJB and Thai boxing. For me karate without the study of other techniques on the ground and taken, in the street it's neer 0. But if you supplement with judo and a litel of lute ... you can be formidable fighter, (in all the phases and distance of a fight) I say this while I prefer Kickboxing like Thai boxing (power) or French boxing (speed and combo). But they too exelent scool have their limits and are not efficient alone, it's same for all scool.

off course is shotokan karate-do, with some mix of jiu-jitsu but in essence still karate, the demonstration with kimono is 100% Karate.

The real Karate Shotokan has grappling, takedown and elbows, knees and personal defense, however it had been taken in past, since Funakoshi, cause he wanted to learn the complete art, but the japanese didn´t want that. Why what is trainned today is only a part of the truly karate and part of your complet aspects. Ossu!!
