I'm currently in a place where depression and chronic pain have been keeping me from doing much of anything, and am just lucky enough to have a family that wants every kid to live at home so they can save up for a house. But while being unemployed for quite a few months after a back surgery, I've completely realized I want to tell stories, preferably as a writer. Movies, TV, Comics, Games, anything like that (writing actual novels is something I really want to do, but I'm just not on that level of ability yet, and sort of feel like it'd work best if I co-authored with someone who I could bounce ideas off of and have them tell me I need to write). Where do you even start with this stuff when you're 30, don't have any backup plans besides getting whatever entry-level job is available, and hadn't made anything before? Because I feel like I could write some good films or graphic novels, but where do you go to learn about the industry and apply for jobs. If it helps, I am actually a short commute from NYC. Do I just go to places I'd want to work and hand out resumes and portfolios of scenes I'd written?

I'd seen her in a few episodes of "Doctor Who", but she really impressed me in "Welcome to the Jungle", where she subverted her usual action girl roles by playing a shy bookworm who has to portray a Lara Croft character. Also, her American accent is so convincing, that it's surprising to hear her real Scottish voice.

The scene in GOTG Vol 3 where Nebula cries when she learns that Rocket was alive hits so hard, not just because she cries, but because Karen had spent multiple movies giving Nebula so much character and emotion. One of the best pieces of advice my acting teachers ever have me, that can often be hard to follow consistently has to be "you are not acting. Acting is for the stage. On screen you need to live your moments sincerely." I've done films with stage actors who have no screen training and often they forget that they're framed specifically and do what you do on stage, which is move around a lot, often with exaggerated gestures and expressions. Dialogue wise, same thing, as they'll sometimes forget there is no back of the theater you need to worry about. Big reason I love this job though. Only line of work that I enjoy thinking about and discussing and learning when I'm not even working. And I used to be a chef, so you know that means something.

Haven't watched the episode (just got past the introduction)... wanted to say that Gillan is not only one of my favorite actresses of all time, but one of my favorite PEOPLE. She's simply a lovely person and I wish I could get to know her on a personal level. Of all of her many (MANY) roles, the one that connected with me the most was actually Nebula. I had a rough life growing up and (believe it or not), I see a great deal of my own mental processes and reactions in that character. Bravo, Karen. We love ya. :)

I'll always love Karen for her role as Amy Pond. So excited to see her on here! Had no idea she's a Director. Love to see the success she's had.

I must admit she is one of my favorite actors. as Amy Pond she was beliveable to have birthed the psycopath River Song while still being a likeable character. have seen her in Jumanji, gunsmoke milkshake and Nebula. it is not many but they still show an amazing range. would love to be a fly on the wall when she is working.

Karen is absolutely fantastic!! Somehow I missed that she’s also a director, I’m delighted to learn that! So, that wasn’t brother energy…sisters bring that energy too in real life, especially when we’re teens, it just doesn’t get portrayed in the media because so many filmmakers are coming from the male perspective and they haven’t been part of those experiences so they don’t know.

I loved the vulnerability she brought to Selfie and am still mad it got canceled. Her rendition of Chandelier was tears-inducing.

If you're interested, Karen Gillan made up the ending to Selfie on my page! She met up with John Cho last year too
