Influencers saying that they’re scaling back and talking about over spending are surely feeling the sting of lower views and backlash as people are feeling the pinch of a huge jump in the cost of living. I’ve also seen a rise in drugstore product reviews and hauls coming from influencers who did all high end and luxury reviews. So, of course there’s an influencer trend denouncing PR and hauls. Views baby, views. And with that the rise in videos of content creators saying they’ll have to quit bc YT payouts have dwindled (anyone surprised) and lower view counts mean they may have to get another job to … pay bills. We all get it.

Girl, I am going on a slowdown buy. LMAOOOO 😂 Just because I have some large life events happening this year. Graduation, new job, possible move, car, and international travel to see my paternal side of the family. 😅 I gotta save my coins. LMAO 🤣 I did ball out for my birthday (January 13th) nada thing of makeup - mostly household items, groceries, new winter boots and shoes, plus winter gear. LoL. 😂

P.s.P.s. loved your eye look at the very end. I'm super reliant on dark lower waterline liner/pencil to balance every look (you and I have similar eye setting and brows) , but to see you with a minimal lower lash line and the mid/pastel lid was such an ethereal look that really worked! You looked so pretty. Maybe I'll try it more.

I still love old style haul videos from you since you have a mix of PR and personal purchases. I'm not "jealous" of PR per se but I do think it's nice to see what creators buy because you go thru similar decisions making process as your regular consumers do. But of course you can't buy everything which is when PR is necessary. Keep doing that you are doing! And don't be too hard on yourself. You are awesome.

Karen, I loved your measured and well- reasoned discussion/disclaimer at the end! I haven't been a makeup hobbyist for too long , just 3 or 4 years, and I often listen with interest to what sounds like extreme self-flagellation from others who have been over- consuming (often longer than I) and from declutter-ers and project pan-ers who sometimes seem to be gritting their teeth forcing themselves through the disposal or use of products. I'm not blaming them for their difficulties; people's relation to consumerism is closely tied to mental health or state, and I know that firsthand. But it's a breath of fresh air to hear a perspective that seems to have made peace with your job and its demands, balanced with attention to the reality of the worst excesses of consumerism.

I don’t want this to happen because I don’t want myself or anyone else to struggle, but if the economy goes down and unemployment goes high, a lot of people are going to be forced into going into no buys until they get back on their feet with a job. I could see a lot of indies and some mainstream brands closing. Also less views for beauty content creators because people don’t have the time or money for more makeup. I decided to do a no buy until September 1st which is when all the Fall and Halloween stuff comes out. I have too much. A lot of us like to pretend our makeup will be good after 25 years but it doesn’t have that lifespan and everything eventually goes bad, some stuff goes bad a lot faster than other makeup. The no buy will give me a chance to donate/declutter makeup and use what I have. Having 500+ palettes and never letting much go can turn into a hoarder situation as years pass by. I’m letting go of makeup and clothes each season because I don’t want ever to get to that point. I don’t have 500+ palettes to be clear, but I’m saying I don’t want to get to that high palette count. 😂

My attitude with competitions is you won nothing but also you lost nothing I don’t get jealous like that you don’t knew ins and outs of things to get jealous! Like I don’t get jealous of social media I just see it as entertainment and I know nothing in life is free you have to work or trade something to get something but I’m 47 so easy for me to have that attitude!

This might sound crazy and eek sulfur smells . But for my feet, legs and armpits I use sulfur soap then rewash with nice smelly wash and then lotion and oil feet and legs immediately getting out of the shower. My daughter convinced me 2 years ago . Give it a chance took a bit but now smooth and soft

I was inspired by end of year declutters to use the palettes I haven't reached for this year to see if they deserve a spot in my collection. So I haven't been buying much. But it's more of a space thing than overconsumption. I'm a firm "you do you" believer. I got into makeup to bring me back to life after miscarriages and pregnancies and ulitmately birth. Everyone has their struggles and ways to deal.

The best thing I use for cracked feet is vaseline with socks over it. But I only need to do it a few times a year. But would love to know goes prequel works. I also don't like the feeling of thick moisturizer on my hands.

My heels cracks so bad they can bleed. I use kerasal ointment with foot socks and a regular sock over for several hrs a day . Eventually the skin dies and i can cut it away as bd plane it smooth. It always comes back abd then i😢m back using the sicks and kerasal again.

Maybe Kaleidos was playing it safe and waiting to see how the indie brand arena would fare in this economy. Look how many fell in 2024. I do wish they’d put out more eyeshadow palettes but now I fear they may have lost their edge.

I do think brands are releasing more than ever but I don’t blame them - it is a business & they’re going to keep up with it as long as we’re all buying things. But I just can’t keep bringing in as much stuff, lol too much of it is sitting around!
