For the people who do not live in Los Angeles County, one should know that the media is attempting to conflate Los Angeles the city and Los Angeles County. Yes, places like Altadena, California are unincorporated areas of Los Angeles city, but places like Malibu have their own mayors. There are many, many, cities in Los Angeles County, and Mayor Bass is not the mayor of most of them.

It's not the time for a politician representing a city or state to not be in place if the politician is aware of the potential danger that's imminent coming into the area. Texas Senator Rafael "Ted" Cruz was running from the deep freeze in the state when he was caught by the media going to the airport to travel for warmer weather in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, back in February of 2021. He tried to play it off by saying that he was sending his family only to the country. It's all about the optics when a politician is called upon to serve the people who voted him/her into public office to attend to their needs regarding their challenges in the city or state in the country.

58% of the forest in California is managed by the US Forest Service. Poor management by the governors in the Red States cannot prevent the destruction from hurricanes and tornadoes. I am an American independent, and I am tired of the left-wing, right-wing rhetoric. No one can prevent natural disasters with winds of over 100 miles per hour. The Red States of Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming have to deal with forest fire management. Prayers for the people of California dealing with this disaster would be more appropriate instead of blaming Mayor Bass

I blame who controls the water which is the DWP. The CEO of the DWP gets $750K/yr. The Load Dispatcher (at the DWP) who controls the pumps gets $800k/yr. Also, Newsom diverted the mountain water from running into aqueducts as it did for decades to instead run into the ocean. So, we have no water in our aqueducts and reservoirs. The DWP were relying on water from a few tanks & when those tanks emptied out then we ran out of water. The mayor doesn't know or control that historically. I don't want to hold her to a standard that no other mayor was held to.

Karen Bass is not the mayor of any of these cities. Maybe people don’t know but there is a Los Angeles COUNTY and a Los Angelos CITY. Los Angelos county is a large county with 88 cities. The city of Los Angeles is only 1(ONE) city within the county of Los Angeles ( it just so happens to share the same name). Karen Bass is the mayor of the CITY of Los Angelos. However Malibu, Eaton, Altidina ect are NOT in the city of LA and are NOT governed by Karen Bass. According to the county website The county of Los Angeles’ board of supervisors is the governing body of the ( cities in the county of Los Angeles) which includes Malibu etc. NOT Karen Bass!!! It said that’s the city of Malibu is a general Law city and operates under an elected council manager form of government ( 5 WYT men) for 4 yrs with a mayor that rotates annually. Stop blaming the mayor of LA for global natural issues especially in areas that she does not govern!!! LA county population: 9,606,925 LA city population: 3,898,000 So 5,708,925 are NOT governed by Karen Bass. I think you need to do a more thorough investigation of the information. Why is it that when questioned extensively and fairly about the fires, lack of man power(because of budget decisions) and water, Mayor Bass had little of substance to say . She was given an opportunity to answer, and talk directly to the people, and chose to stay silent in one instance, and at a press conference read a tired script that so many politicians read... "Our hearts go out to the families, and we are here for you", when they really aren't here for any of us!!! She told the people that if they needed resource information they should refer to" URL", not understanding that she was supposed to read an actual full URL address to provide an actual resource...This is not a case of her being unfairly treated, it's simply a case of her not being the right person for the job...We need to stop jumping to the same ole tired conclusions that people criticize because a person is black or a woman, but because they just aren't doing the job!

Karen, I am ALL in!! I'm an LA native who suffers occasionally with insomnia. Woke up this morning at 1, went on NextDoor, saw petitions to recall Mayor Bass, that she was elected because she was Black and friends with the LGBT community. I was tired, but I had to go off on all of the creeps telling folk to sign the petition. The one liner to one of the people commenting, "Get a life!" got me an alert asking if what I was saying was kind. Hmmmm... ok. I'll be kind. "Please get a life!" was able to be posted with ease. I stayed up & wrote on several posts how idiotic their statements were. Was Mayor Bass responsible for 100mph winds? Helicopters were grounded because they couldn't see through the smoke. Did they read about the difficulty of water going uphill & how multiple fires puts a strain on the system? Whew! I'm tired. I'm not writing tonight. I need to sleep. Los Angeles resident here. Mayor Bass is not to blame for the fire. However, given she decreased the Fire Dept budget by nearly $18 millIion, coupled with her Fire Dept appointed Chief advising her last year the Dept didnt have the financial resources to combat a wild fire, she has to bare some of the blame. When you are in charge you own a portion of blame rather fair or not. Moreover, the catastrophe was a total lack of competence on the part of multiple agencies including the Governor, LADWP, Fire and of course Ms. Bass. Race has no impact on the incompetence.

Karen Hunter the Fire Chief for LAFD, told a GDLA reporter that the budget for fiscal year 24-25 has been drastically and substantially cut and those cuts have affected their ability to meet their obligations to serve the community. Their budget was originally $880M and went to about $862.4M. That is still a lot of money to get things accomplished. If a brush clearing system was put into place, the mountain water collected as it used to, this fire wouldn't have been as bad. It got so bad because the firefighters ran out of water. Then the pumps malfunctioned which would've pumped ocean water up into Palisades. They have a track record of malfunctioning as far back as the 90s. Older fire fighters are saying this. So, the pumps need to be replaced and we need multiple back up pumps. The powers that be wanted Palisades to burn. They cancelled every way to save it. They placed Karen to be the fall guy. She's older, doesn't think as fast on her feet and isn't as politically savvy so that makes her the perfect fall guy.
