It’s nice to see tractors with mechanical issues. As opposed to all the modern ones of today with sensors, and software issues.

In regards to the 390, you can do a couple of little checks yourself before it goes to the mechanic. Look at the battery terminals for signs of green on the cables ends & a build up of white powder on the battery terminals more noticeable on the battery + terminal. Give them a tug & make sure they don't move & are tight. Do the same on the starter-motor make sure all the cables are tight & have no movement. When you take it to the mechanic tell them its a hard start, you'll get a more complete diagnosis. There are a lot of things that can cause a hard start, weak battery, poor cable condition, bad ground, lazy starter motor, low compression, weak glow plugs, fuel running back. Remember you are paying the mechanic to diagnose & rule out all the above problems rather than chucking expensive parts on to your tractor. All the best with both I look forward to hearing what your mechanic finds on the fuel system of the 135. Those cow do keep you busy

A good stockman trusts her instincts, the calf looks a bit gaunt, possibly mineral deficiency (selenium), worms or simple dehydration from weaning stress causing an electrolyte imbalance. Best not to wait for an emergency. Realize he’s not easy to handle but try to do a basic hands on exam, press the abdomen looking for tenderness, check skin tenting on neck or back, run fingers inside of mouth. If possible check urine color and a stool sample. Keep an eye on him.
@karenmoynihanfarm3 ай бұрын
He's not weaning so don't think it's dehydration or stress. seems to be doing very well now again that the weather has picked up a bit

Lost some But 97% of over 3 K is not to bad To have lived and produced tons of milk for us.
@michaelproctor53123 ай бұрын
290 and 390 are not good starters, they need a lot of heat so make sure battery is good, good connections and glow plugs are working, 135s are far superior to start.

You said it yourself " Norma,s calf is always small" . He might look small to you but that's beause the others are like gym bunnies. The calves birthdays should be noted and one other thing you dont hear about and that is the level of milk solids per cow. That coud be a genuine reason to cull a cow but not Norma.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a young yearly bull for a year down the line to bred your heifers and cows, verses having the vet com out each time or even more for some at a minimum?
@karenmoynihanfarm3 ай бұрын
The vet doesn't do the AI. The AI is a lot cheaper than a visit from a vet. The vet just had to come this time because there was an issue. Bulls are dangerous no matter how quiet you think they are and we don't have the fencing set up in most of our fields to hold a bull for any length of time
