Do the Ethnic Karenni consider themselves part of Karen. Not quit sure the significant difference between the Karen's and Karenni. I know the language is different but culture is similar.

The Karenni people are known as the “Red Karen or Kayah”. There are many cultural similarities between the Karen and Karenni, such as dietary practices, family structures and religious traditions, there are also significant differences. Karen State and the Karenni state are separate states within Burma,almost like their own country.The Karen language is completely different than the Karenni language.These languages are for the most part mutually unintelligible. There are many different dialects within the Karen and Kayah languages. So, Karenni are not considered themself as Karen, but we’re “Cousin”. Hope this answer to your question

@@ehpaw3962 I don’t really know but this is what I know. Karenni and Karen are both fought against Burmese military before. Currently, the government of Myanmar signed a ceasefire agreement with the KNPP since 2012. I think Karenni(KNPP) and Karen(KNU) are working together to fight against Burmese military but I don’t know about now since Karenni has sign the agreement. As we all know Burmese military leader are big LIE, and they never keep their promise. I just hope one day we have our own FREEDOM.

There are a lot of the same words or same meaning with different tones. such as road(Kleh), water(htee/Htar), short(ah Pu/ah poe), tall(ah tall, ah too), sour(ah shee/ah Sha), sweet(ah shur/Ah Shu), bitter(ah Kha, ah Khay), hot(ah Ko/Ah Ku), pig(htaw/hteh), bird(htoe/htoo), dog(twee/twee), chicken(shaw/Sha), cat(ta mi nyaw/ htaw mi nyaw)...etc Hence our country is not separated, we, Karen and Red Karen will speak each other language.
