The members had contributions for the Gayuma era. The choreo is made by Jao and Taneo, while the song is composed by Alas, Taneo, and Mo. Mo co-produced the song as well ^^. Thanks for the reaction!

ALAMAT is hands down my favorite most swaggiest ppop group! please react to more of their music videos like Maharani, Aswang, Kasmala and you'll see why ;) their music is hip hop and r&b based and they always make it a point to represent our original indigenous pre-colonial culture through lyrics (they're the first and only ppop group to sing & rap in multiple languages, there are over 100 unique languages spoken in the Philipines), traditional folk dance inspiration incorporated into the choreo, showcasing baybayin (the nearly lost traditional script of our people), the traditional tribal sounds they use in the music, and also through utilizing tribal textiles in pretty much all of the outfits that they wear (their style is seriously ON POINT!). their intention is to share the beauty and uniqueness of our people... it's what they're known for! true gems of this growing ppop industry, they stand out from the rest because they're authentically doing something different from everyone else. also ALAMAT means "LEGEND". they are seriously dope af, i hope you go down the ALAMAT rabbit hole!

Hello! ALAMAT is a multiethnic, multilingual P-Pop group. They’re not the first multiethnic P-Pop group by any means - most P-Pop groups are actually multiethnic (as in the members hail from different ethnic groups native to the Philippines), but ALAMAT is the first to embrace their diversity, and they sing and rap in the members’ native languages. There could be as many as 7 or 8 languages in an ALAMAT song. “Gayuma” is in Taglish. But they have plenty of multilingual songs as well. I hope you can check those out! “ABKD” is one of their amazing multilingual songs, and their concept there is super different from “Gayuma.” “ILY ILY” is also one of their multilingual songs with a music video. “Hala” doesn’t have a music video, but their studio dance performance for it is pretty awesome. Those are just a few of the multilingual songs they have. Mo is half-Black American and half-Filipino, and he represents the Tagalog and Sambal languages. Taneo is Kalinga (an Indigenous tribe in the Philippines) and Ilocano, representing the Ilocano language. R-Ji is Waray (and Bisaya), representing the Waray language. Alas is Mindanawon Bisaya, representing the Bisaya (Cebuano) language. Tomas is Bicolano, representing the Bicolano language. Jao is Kapampangan, representing the Kapampangan language.

Sorry for all my explanations! But... Filipino is the name for standardized national Tagalog. It’s not really a separate language from Tagalog. Filipino, the standardized form of Tagalog, was developed in the late 1930s. Tagalog was chosen as its basis because it was the native lingua franca of Manila, the colonial capital.

btw, ALAMAT does have a main choreographer named Jim Amen who has choreographed almost all of their dances/comebacks, he's amazing! every dance he's done for them is so fire. but for GAYUMA in particular, this song was written by ALAMAT themselves (mainly Mo, with the help of Taneo and Alas i believe) and also choreographed by ALAMAT as well (by their main dancers Jao and Taneo). so GAYUMA is super special and quite an incredible milestone for them since they debuted in 2021, being their first comeback both written and choreographed by them!

YESSS! Charlie, totally agree with you. I think Alamat is a cool way to learn about the Filipino culture and the languages! From their earlier MVs, lyrics, beats, clothes and symbols, you will get a lowdown on our pre-colonial, colonial and post colonial culture, then there is the futuristic vibe of Gayuma. From there, you'll be able to research more on the rich culture and heritage we have. Alamat is the avante garde of Filipino music as they've broken boundaries in many aspects. I stan other Ppop groups (mainly SB19 & G22), but IMO, Alamat is the only PPop group that is truly authentic Filipino from the very start. It was conceptualized from the ground up to embody Filipino culture starting from the name itself, "Alamat" meaning 'legend'. It has strewn in many influences from world pop, R&B and soul, to our own tribal roots. To me, Alamat is a historical journey, from past, present to future. It's all up to you where it'll take you. P/s Saw this video on my feed. I love following Kpop reactors reacting on Ppop for the first time. If Charlie has a YT channel, I'll follow him, too! (If I'm not mistaken, PH has 170++ or more languages, not a thousand+)

Philippines has about 120 languages and no gender pronouns (You could be living in one island and part of the population would not understand the other.) Tagalog is the main language. Easiest to learn tagalog is to know that every vowel has a short sound. Easiest sentence to learn: "Bababa ba?"(Is this/it going down?)

According to Ethnologue, Philippines have a total of 182 languages. I think "dialects" is outdated term and partly as a relic of the inaccurate vocabulary used in literature during the American period (1898-1946).
@julienneloreto8561 Жыл бұрын
Not outdated, but simply inaccurate. Outdated implies that it was accurate or true at some point in time. It wasn't true, ever. Once they diverged thousands of years ago, way before the colonizers came, then they became languages. The Philippine languages were always languages.
@jungsky5469 Жыл бұрын

7:25 "Is there a 'like'?" The most natural way to say "I like you" is "Gusto kita," but be careful that can also mean "I have a crush on you" (I guess that's true of the English as well, sometimes). "I have a crush on you" would be more literally expressed "May gusto ako sa iyo", but even "Gusto kita" might be understood with a romantic sense, although it is commonly used without such a meaning, just an ordinary friendship "like".

I am so happy. You even have an idea about the language of the Philippines. Thank you for informing your viewers about the language. The official language of the Philippines is both FILIPINO and ENGLISH. The Filipino language is based on TAGALOG, the main dialect of the nation's capital, Manila and surrounding areas. But yes. We have hundreds to thousands of different dialects because we are an archipelago. Other dialects include Cebuano (from Cebu province), Ilocano (from Ilocos province), Bisaya (from the Visayas region), etc. And yes, we Filipino have the term TAGLISH to denote the use of both English and Tagalog (Filipino) in our everyday conversation. We can't help it. We are also colonized by the Americans and they taught us the language. So even after the Americans leave the Philippines, it becomes one of our main language that it is even taught as early as five in schools here. Anyway, thank you very much for reacting to this video and to Alamat. If we have to strictly rate P-Pop based on talent alone, they come second after SB19. This group is so underrated that any form of reaction from reactors such as you guys could help these guys. Word of mouth will catapult them to stardom. I hope you like them and their music. And we wish for you to continue to reacting to Alamat.

Ay uy, Chris, one of Alamat's advocacies is the differentiation of "languages" from "dialects." Tagalog is a language, just like other Binisaya (Cebuano), Ilocano, Kapampangan etc. Let's categorize them as languages. They are not derivatives of something. This classification helps build the distinct identities of the language as well as their speakers. Also, I think we should shy away from ranking PPop groups (eg Group YY is second to Group XX). These hierarchies are really arbitrary and unproductive - doing so usually just sows seeds of prejudice. Salamat sa PPop support and I hope u take this positively!
