I just purchased an LED lamp and a mix of TruGel top/base coat and IBD gel polish for color. So far so good!

Is it ok to use a base and top coat with those "all-in-one" gel polishes even though they aren't necessary, and would using the additional base and top coat cause them to last longer? I'm new to the gel scene and just looking for a few tips and tricks to make my diy manicures last as long as possible.
