My mother told me she was in the hospital after giving birth to me when she say that Vanessa Williams was crowned Miss America and she said she knew it was a new world where I could become Miss America. I had heard other documentaries about her and they said the people who leaked the photos tried other outlets but they refused to publish them because Miss America was a respectable position and they would not want to stain the institution. Unfortunately, Hustler weren't so moral and were wack to leak the photos during her reign and not after. They just had to wait a few months. Vanessa's career luckily took off in the early 90's. She was the it girl. Just sad that she had to go through the embarrassment of the photos and having to step down

the leaked photos IMO seemed like a set up...i am positive that there have been other contestants that probably had pics and film...but the fact that she was AA and the nature of the photos were SCANDALOUS and SALACIOUS back in the day. I was in high school then...funny thing tho...she is the ONLY Miss America that most people can remember her name other than maybe Anita Bryant. (i am truly telling my age with that one) She is truly talented a very good actress and a great singer. FUN FACT: She was going to sing "Mercedes Boy" but LA Reid gave the song to his then wife, Pebbles. I think Vanessa would have sang it better! IJS

Remember at that time doing such photos was not unheard of. I remember reading article that stated that nude photos was a stepping stone into show biz for many women . I was shocked at some of the topless photos that many actress of note had taken.

Always a fan of Nessa! I watched in utter disbelief as she and the runner up were both black women and did a happy dance all through our apartment. When everything came out and she gave up the title, I remember saying to friends that she not done and that there's a reason all this came out after the fact. We may never know.
