I was a psychiatric nurse in the 70's & 80's. Bi polar was referred to as manic depression then. When patients were manic a lot were very creative & very insightful of their issues & of others. Their high period would escalate for days, weeks & when they came down & learnt of their behaviour some became very sexual their behaviour sent them into deep depression. They could be very amusing when manic but their depression was sad to witness. Unfortunately loved ones & friends wear the brunt of their behaviour & a lot have no more contact with them due to their erratic behaviour.

It's my understanding that she underwent shock therapy in an effort to try to control her depression and/or bipolar disorder. In addition she was institutionalized a few times as well. I do really feel for her daughter. It must have been a very terrifying experience because when someone is misusing alcohol or other things, it's not fun being a child living with them.

My big brother has bipo and is a talented musician and pretty eccentric guy overall❣️ His first big episode was triggered when our mom passed away. Often stress and trauma can cause bipolar and other mental illnesses to surface. I recognize that trend in celebrities who are traumatized by fame and pushed to their breaking points. The industry wants access to their talent, and shows no mercy when they break.
