I'm sure you have also heard this iconic song performed 1000 times in your lifetime. How can anyone really bring something new to it, especially as a solo artist? Especially a heavy metal vocalist!
Well, I dare you to listen to this with an open mind, because you might be totally bowled over, like I was. In this analysis I try to break down some of the reasons why Dan Vasc's rendition of Amazing Grace is so special. I would love to hear what You think!

Thank you for the detailed analysis of this singer's rendition of Amazing Grace. Very useful and informative that helped train the ears and the hearers as we parse the mechanism of Vasc 's voice, his transition from the first F octave to the third F octave, from acapella to metal rasp.. It takes a vocal coach to point that out. Your analysis was very helpful.

His voice is a fine tuned instrument in itself. He has trained himself to sing like he does. Every note is spot on and he sings with so much emotion! He can sing anything and in 5 different languages. Dan Vasc is a brilliant artist that keeps getting better. I hope he is heard in every corner of the world and shares his talent that he has worked so hard for. 🎼🤗❤️

I do not like heavy metal, but, i have to say, this was BEAUTIFUL!!! The best version I've heard in my 60 yrs. I believe no one will ever be able to outdo Dan on this song. Its almost as if this is the way it was supposed to be sung! Ive listened to this over and over and over again, and still moved to tears every time i listen to it. The timing of the release of this video, was perfect and very prophetic...the whole world needs to hear this song right now. So many billions of hearts hurting right now. The Jesus revolution has begun. God bless Dan and all who listen to this beautifully performed song!

He intentionally released it during the Easter season because he wanted people to celebrate the real meaning of Easter again. I think you’d enjoy his two Christmas songs, For All, Beyond Belief, Gethsemane, and Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus (yes,he pulls it off solo!). The man is an amazing singer who works very hard at it.

@@JohanBesterYourVocalCoach Watch his cover of "The Music of the Night." You will see his operatic skills there. This was the first song I saw of him when it came out and when you say you have a connection because of "him", that is so true, that is how I felt. His voice and presence are one together. I truly believe he has a voice from GOD and he knows GOD so you see and hear it in his song. Watch his video 13 years ago and now, he has grown to be a wonderful person and singer.

I believe that the nasal sound is more due to the Portuguese language spoken in Brazil, it's kind of an accent.
@dutchdykefinger
@dutchdykefinger Жыл бұрын
i think so too words like "um" and "om" have a nasal sound to the M (sometimes the N too) and the existence of M or N can make a vowel nasal in portugese now thinking about that, i'm going to listen for whether his nasal sounds have a way of starting around words with the M or N

I'm Brazilian as him, and I can tell you that it is somewhat difficult for us Brazilians to completely get ride of our accent, and figure out the right way to pronounce certain English words. All vowels sound differently in Portuguese than in English. I can only imagine how much hard work he had to put on this, to achieve such amazing result, even not not being an english native speaker. I assume he has an incredible musician ear, besides the magic voice.

Nice reaction! Dan has been by favorite since 9/15/20, when I first heard him do The Sound of Silence, thanks to a KZbin suggestion. He's taken lessons for ten years, and he works really hard at his singing. He can do it live; he's definitely that good! I recommend Nessun Dorma, An American Trilogy, and Gethsemane, in addition to all the other videos that have 1M or more views on his channel. All 200+ songs are great, though, from his "awkward" (his own opinion) first video to this latest one. Thanks for this first reaction.

Glad to help! I'm really loving seeing Dan's channel grow, plus I love talking about him. One more quick nugget - the harmonica was a gift from his dad when he was seven. Sadly, his dad passed away from cancer in 2017; his cover of An American Trilogy is a wonderful tribute to him.

Dan Vasc has a God given talent with his beautiful & powerful voice. He is the total package. He gives this song the respect it deserves. He builds it up slowly into the climactic & powerful message the songs words delivers. He pours himself into the song & make people really FEEL every word. It's truly amazing! I felt like I was in the presence of God listening to him sing this song. I disagree with your idea that he was nasal at all. I also disagree with how critical you are of his talent, but is just my opinion. I thoroughly enjoyed this version of this song. I feel that this is the best I've EVER heard. Love your reaction to this song and your explanations - learned so much - and subscribed! Everyone who hears Dan Vasc and this song has the same jaw dropping, head shaking grin at how epic this performance is! You are so right - it's easy to 'connect' to Dan when he sings - he's so genuine and really feels everything he sings; he sings with purpose but is so relaxed he makes it look easy. He has excellent control over his voice and keeps it interesting by mixing it up. He took lessons and worked really hard to get this good. He posted his earliest videos from 12 years ago and you can hear his improvement.. Check out his other songs - 200+ great covers... Gethsemane, My mother told me, Battle Hymn, Several Witcher covers, Handel's Messiah, Nessun Dorma -- all fantastic. His dad gave him a harmonica when he was 7 (his dad passed away from cancer about 5 years ago). Dan pours his whole soul into every performance. Truly epic voice and a great guy... Do more reactions to his work - it was great!!

Dan can sing this live. This version was recorded in only one take. Dan typically records each song three times now - and he has three cameras set to record from different views. He then chooses the one vocal recording he thinks sounds best of the three, and makes his accompanying video by melding views from the three cameras. So, essentially, a live version of this song would sound very similar and would just include breathing sounds he otherwise removes in editing. He made a video several years ago explaining how he records his songs and makes his videos.

When I heard Dan sing this the first time, every part that followed the harmonica part made me think I want to sing with this much power and emotion when Jesus returns, either for each of us one by one, or the final trumpet blast. The soul releasing that final dot of doubt, and celebrating His Victory on the cross. The 4th verse has always been a cry of victory for me. Finally someone sang it the way John Newton wrote it.

Thank you for your honest reaction to this vocalist. He is now my favorite on the planet. I hope everyone subscribes to Dan Vasc's KZbin channel. He's phenomenal, from his sweet Disney covers to his heavy metal covers (ex: Bring Me to Life.) I don't know how he does it, but I'm hooked. God gave him talent and he has honed it to perfection. He's wise beyond his 33 years, hardworking, and funny. He's like a kid playing his video games, then turns into a beast with his microphone. On many songs he sings harmonies, so he couldn't do those live, but it sounds angelic. Check out his cover of Toto's "Africa." You'll see what I mean. Once you catch "Vasc"ulitis, you need to be "Vasc"inated daily. Dive in. Enjoy!

I like and agree with all your comments, specifically the nasal areas, which made me curious. I also don’t understand why he changed the word “there” to “here” as if he doesn’t believe in Heaven. I hope he does, because I want to hear that powerful tenderness in the Heavenly Choir when I get there. Plus, I don’t know how he could connect so well to a song about redemption without having experienced it. Thanks for a most accurate and insightful review!

Thank you for this reaction. Hope you don't mind a long comment. Firstly, I listened to your opinion 3 times over a period of weeks. You sound to be from SA and so am I. The 1st time I thought, about your comments, can't you just listen and enjoy the way I do. Over time I came back to your reaction. Thought, ok, he wasn't being negative, he was teaching about different styles. Then after another period I listened to your reaction again. In the meantime I probably listened to all and every reaction. So, thank you for teaching me a few new ways of understanding why sounds, like growls, high notes, softer notes, vibratos and other fluctuations attracts me. I will now try to remember at least some of the things you mentioned. Please react on other Dan Vasc covers like Angels heard on high, Heaven is a place on earth, and the massive version of Nessun Dorma. Thank you.

You guys should watch Dimash Qudaibergen, the Kazakhtan singer. This Dan Vasc rendition of Amazing Grace was sang at the level of Dimash's week in week out back in 2019. Anyway these performances deserved 10 out of 10. This version of Amazing Grace was sang so well by a heavy metal singer with perfect high pitch and unique growl. Shown this to a church pastor last Sunday and he said he never heard anything like that. On the other hand, you guys should listen to Dan's low voice in Elvis Presley's "Love Me Tender", a tribute to a 78 year old Elvis' fan where his wife requested when he passes. That was an excellent low vocal range by a metal singer.

I'm glad to see someone mention air control with vocals rather than just "lung capacity". If you can control your vocal cords and mouth shape you don't actually need much air to produce a strong and very loud note 😉 the long notes are more about how long can you hold your breath before your lungs pull all the oxygen out of the air in there lol

Dan is my second favorite singer besides Dimash. Have you listened to his Nessum dorma or his very emotional rendition of Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Superstar

Yes. And I agree 💯. Prefer his Gethsemane to Neeley's...as an original JCSS Superfan. Magnifique!

It saddens me that people still hear 'metal singer' and instead of getting excited they go 'ugh'. I don't know a genre that houses more musical and vocal talent than metal and they are not that far behind with some truly class lyricism taking on serious subjects. I suppose if your idea of metal is Cannibal Corpse I get it, but gosh, reputation issue.

If you want a REAL jaw drop, and no matter what, you HAVE to check out Lauren Babic’s cover of “My heart will go on” …. Also Amazing Grace (My chains are gone) by Pentatonix is really worth a listen!!
