Karl Amadeus Hartmann had a very courageaous attitude towards nazism. Most of his compositions written during that period but kept aside were reworked and published after 19945. His language is quite personal and original. It could be consiçdered as quite conservative for the time when it was published. But there is a great musical, aesthetic and moral strength in all his works. The nucleus is the series of symphonies opened by the fascinating present one. A noble figure not to be forgotten.

he is of great importance as a symphonist in Germany and as the initiator for Musica Viva in Munich. What shall I say? English speaking countries are not the most important reference for modern music in the world. There is East Asia, there ist France and Southern Europe...
