Aside from financial reasons, this is terrible for the Wolves. Playoffs is where it’ll be exposed. The versatility they had from series to series depending on needs with Rudy/KAT was perfect. Randall is a “ball stopper” type player kinda like bosh and melo. He’s gonna clog the lane and that will hurt Ant. Kat back with Thibs is another underrated favourable component to this trade for the Knicks
@Smido833 ай бұрын
Randle takes even more 3's then KAT (6.2 3's per 36 Randle vs 5.9 3's per 36 KAT), just shooting them worse (34.5% the last 4 years vs 40% for KAT). But he is a better passer. Not sure why you think he is a "ball stopper". Cause he worked just fine next to Brunson, specially after the OG trade before he got injured. Did he "clog the paint" for Brunson? Who btw had the 2nd most drives in the entire NBA last season. Overall KAT might be a slightly better player, BUT the Knicks also lost a big part of their wing rotation. With Bridges/Hart/OG starting, their bench wing rotation is now Rookie Dadiet and defensive black hole Shamet... does that sound great to you? Be prepared to see 40+ reg season minutes from the 3 wings... untill one gets injured!

@@Smido83 Exactly this. Each of the last three years, Randle has been 3rd in the NBA amongst PFs in Assists per game, behind only notoriously elite passers Draymond and Giannis. Randle is an elite playmaker for his position. His whole game on ball is to be an efficient bully ball post scorer, then pass to the open man when the double comes. Which is what the Knicks built their entire offense around; Divo, OG, and Mikal were all top 5 in corner 3's last season. And off-ball, he shoots a high enough volume of threes at a decent enough rate that he draws his man out of the paint, clearing the way for the aforementioned Brunson drives.

It seems like a Knicks to me. They looked their best without Randle on the court last year and his fit with this new roster is questionable to say the least. Trading him now is likely max value especially with his contact situation. Donte’s minutes are already replaced with the addition of Mikal and OG being healthy. Not to mention, they needed another center. They can afford to start KAT at center during the regular season and then in matchups with teams like the bucks or 76ers they can go big with Brunson, Mikal, OG, KAT, and Robinson and that’s elite rebounding, perimeter defense, and spacing!

For those ready for a potential reason for this, I have a guess. Kat was on the books for 60mil thru 2028 Rudy has a player option next summer Randle has a player option next summer Together they’d be 75 mil off the books and no kat. This would allow you to resign naz and go big game hunting with a young core with the next face of the league as bait. In an ideal world I’m sure they’d have liked to run it back but the ability to move kats money for randles which comes off with goberts after this year meant it had to happen now.

Randle is a very emotional player, when things aren’t going well he really really shows it and that includes not getting the ball enough. He’s known as the peak example of a body language guy. Shots aren’t falling and suddenly he’s slumping his shoulders and not playing defense, I don’t think that meshes with ant. Knicks lowkey locked in the top 1-2 spot in the east along with the Celtics . if kat can handle the New York culture which is basically the fans giving him that tough love if he doesn’t perform good then we’ll be good . we ain’t for the weak over here and we don’t like pampered players hence why randle and brunson fit perfectly in the city , donte lowkey deserved the bench lead role which sucks but hart can easily take that spot once Mitch comes back , not only that but with Mitch and kat being agile 7 footers and then two top defending role players in bridges and og and a killer in brunson .. THATS A SCARY TEAM . Kat gotta come in and accept that it’s brunson team in a tough love city and everything will be smooth for everyone .

The Knicks should’ve waited till the trade deadline to make a trade like this. The whole point of the Mikal Bridges trade was to bring the Nova team together. They gave up 6 first round picks only to give up another one to break up the Nova Knicks.

This trade will come back to haunt Minnesota. Problem is they’re paying max money for Rudy Gobert who is WAY OVERPAID and only plays ONE side of the ball. In this second apron era, you cannot pay max money to a guy who is essentially a specialist and can only play one side of the ball. Now you have Randle out there who needs to have the ball more than KAT, & is an erratic 3-point floor spacer and is basically a mercenary playing for his next contract and is now a cloud of uncertainty hovering over the franchise all season.

They woulda been better off dumping Goberts salary than doing this. I’m sorry but what Gobert does for this team is great, but it’s pretty replaceable. If you replaced Rudy Gobert with Daniel Theis, this team doesn’t get much worse. And Daniel Theis is the “we can’t trade for anybody and nobody wants to sign here” option. But KAT? What he did for this team by being virtually a second center defensively while being one of the best floor spacers in the league on offense… I don’t think people realize how big of a downgrade this is despite Randle being not much worse than KAT in a vacuum. It’s not just about talent, it’s about fit. If you swap Jokic and Embiid on each of their teams, BOTH TEAMS GET WORSE! Randle doesn’t fit what the wolves do. The whole reason they were winning with Rudy was because their ability to space the floor around him, Randle can’t do that. Say hello to the most expensive play in team of all time, and OKC congrats on the free conference!
@IshanaeS3 ай бұрын
@@eliyarrows2456Naz is not sloppy and slow in transition. They need speed and players that can play both sides of the ball effectively without fouling. Players that can match Ant’s aggression. Naz, Jaden and Ant ball out when they are on the floor together. Without Naz we would have not made it to the playoffs since KAT was out on injury.
@sircomesize54973 ай бұрын
@@eliyarrows2456nah, KAT never won shit until Ant came to town. Kat only made the playoffs once before Ant and that’s because of Butler. Gobert helped the Wolves to have the leagues best defense, tf you mean you can replace him with Daniel Theis lol? Not to mention that Kat always sinks during big moments. Just look at his play-in and playoff stats.
@walchkemanEA3 ай бұрын
Ok my question is why not run the rosters without trading and then wait till the trade deadline to re assess, because then it gets the nova knicks, and being able to see the chemistry and the probability of playoff success, and wolves get to see if they can win it all, and then trade if they don’t see a way to win in all, idk tho i may be wrong.
@parris984573 ай бұрын
I’m not bothered about this trade for both teams. It fits what both teams want/need. Minnesota gets a glue guy in Donte that can do just about everything you need out of a shooting guard. Rob dillingham, AE, and Randle are all bucket getters that can attack in many ways. AE’s elite athleticism to get to the paint, or can shoot off the dribble from any area on the court, Randle can do everything KAT does, at a couple inches smaller, but far quicker on the defensive end , dillingham and Shannon will be able to get more touches and get this team to a higher ceiling, and they can make a lineup where every defender on the floor can switch to any player on the floor(Donte,AE,Randle,McDaniels,Gobert). Let’s also not forget that Naz Reid is pretty much a lower tier, but more energetic Kat. I’m excited to see how they make this work. Knicks can now play 5 out and make Jalen Brunson an even bigger threat on the floor. They have one of the best 3pt shooting bigs in nba history, he doesn’t have to put a ton of effort on the rebounds since all the other players around him are capable, and they have a legit low post option to go to for some easy buckets that can also rim protect a bit as well. Both teams will be better for this (hopefully) but im optimistic.
