Germany has produced many Legends: Beckenbauer, G. Muller, Rummenigge, Matthaus, U. Seeler (and even more). Strange that there isn't much footage of these Legends
@pilotl101115 жыл бұрын
you are correct, very little footage of him, many of the younger generation never heard of him, they think Zidane, c ronaldo,,cantona, messi--etc are great players. I watched most of his games at the time, an amazing player, we need to have more footage of Rummenigge. Another German legend is Gerd Mueller,.

That goal was rightfully disallowed. Very dangerous play to kick the foot up above the head in the penalty area.

@grympinski German, and now he's working for his former club, Bayern Munich, where he won two golden balls (1980-1981). He would be in my ideal offensive team (1972-2002) with Ronaldo, Gerd Muller, Van Baste, Maradona, Cruyff, Platini, Zidane, Zico and Schuster.

@PeterOwen88 I 've read this comments on any player of the past. Maybe it's your age, but you and the others have no idea what you are talking about. At that time most teams used man-marking and defenses were not in-line, that means, for example, in Italy to have Mr. Gentile marking you and Mr. Scirea doubling the marking. Defenders in the '70es and '80es, with man marking, were miles better and tougher than today's ones.

Great goal at 1:40. I must defences were much more stand-offish in those days. The forwards had so much time on the ball

@reflexkidx99 Well there is about 30% left of footage from Pele, because of a fire in the room with all his footage. From the WC'66 every match is recorded. In in clubfootball all the Europa Cup 1 games from about the late '60 early 70'ties. So there should be enough footage of Rummenigge. Especially when you consider that Rummenigge played from '74 to '89. And Beckenbauer about a decade earlier and Pele was in his prime in the 60'ties.

Rummenigga was a Balon D Oire winner, and a runner up. Lothar Matthaus (German FIFA Player of the Year winner) once said that he faced Zico and Maradona, yet he still thought Rummenegga was the best player he ever played against.

@PeterOwen88: Actually I would not be able to answer such a question, but if the question were if I believe that the defense line of Bayern which broke the successful run of Ajax had better chance than any defence nowadays to stop Barcelona, I would for sure answer yes. The point is: football has changed in the years in a way to make life easier to the forwards. A good man marker whas someone who was attached to you like a stamp for the whole match and possibly also in the showerrooms.

Best EVER football joke: Half Time analysis Match of The Day 1986 World Cup... Jimmy Hill: What do you think of that Rummenigge? Garth Crooks: What rumour's that Jimmy?

@PeterOwen88 @PeterOwen88: He didn't wait in his zone, but followed you everywhere, and his credo was to kick whatever moving... if it was the ball, no matter and tolerance towards violence from a defender was much higher than now. Of course this cannot be perceived from youtube highlights, but only looking at whole matches from that time. However, to and with the answer: I cannot see today any defender equal to Beckenbauer, Krol, Gentile, Scirea, Passarella or Figueroa.

@KoksNase1987 Well your comment may seem cynical, but it isn't. Matthauis verry underratted, Muller same. People think he could only score goals. But he was excellent in the combination, was verry strong, and he gave lots of assists. The only German who gets the credits is Beckenbauer, but it's impossible to underrate him. Only what he did on the WOrld Cups is enough. Silver, Bronze, Gold, plus he won it as a coach.

@feanorelf1 the fact is neither of us can prove what we are saying because the plays from the past and present cannot play against each other....but think of it this way, do you think thew defenders from 70s, 80s could cope with the Barcelona of today????????? it shouldnt take you long to find an answer
