Karl Kani on Giving Kanye Fashion Advice, Kanye Having the Trump Effect

What do Donald Trump and Kanye West have in common? Well, according to Karl Kani, they both have the gift of gab and know how to push enough buttons to make an impact. The designer has known Yeezy around the time he dropped "Through The Wire" and built a friendship based on favors that he would help artists Kani was working with and in return would feed him information on the fashion industry. When the ambitious rapper decided he wanted to step into the billion dollar industry, Kani says he wanted to be bigger than Jay Z. Kani says West told him "'I want to be big like Jay Z in fashion. You know like when Jay Z puts something on, everybody wants to wear what he has on...That's what I want to be.'"
As for the rapper's past rants and infamous Sway interview discussing the struggle to break into fashion, Kani believes it's just the rapper's genius way to "make an impact." "Kanye got the Donald Trump effect. He says the right things; he knows how to push buttons." He explained, "He knows what to say when to say it, and how to say it. And he knows how to make people know that he's hot."

Kayne, in my opinion has more money than brains. His ego was TOO big and his bank roll was too small (for us, that's life changing money). Collaboration- access to established distribution channels, marketing dollars etc would have been smart. He's learned a $50M lesson. The caveat is: he has the ability to develop a direct to consumer brand where the split is inversed. You can't be a "genius" just because you claim to be one- his best marketing ploy was Kim Kardashian- using that marketing machine. His genius is his ability to hustle the attention of the Kardashians- Brilliant my man.

the conscious mind is the opposite of the psychical so to love the physical is to destroy the mind the physical is charged with a particular frequency which is opposite to the minds charge. all matter in the universe is charged with the same progression frequency no matter what you see everything is going in the same direction the only thing in this universe that is inverse to this is the human mind we desire the opposite of reality which is immortality, because of this fact we value and most desire all things that give us the feeling of time extension, of infinity and immortality. humans achieve this by literally folding the material of reality which is charged with one frequency in order to get another frequency, meaning we get matter and turn it into something that extends our experience of time everything you own is their to increase your time, the problem is our own flesh is made of the same matter which means no matter how well you manipulate matter your own form is always missing to be manipulated. materialism is an illusion it is necessary for human progress but eventually becomes regressive. so to love materialism a philosophical extension of capitalism is to ignore the blind spot

Its really messed up that we are still stuck on labels like this. I like H&M because they don't have labels all over their stuff. I don't think its player at all to have a desire (deep down inside of you) to want people to know you spent a lot of money on something. its really backwards; in my time the rawest shit was getting expensive stuff on the low- the lower the better and not the other way around, in fact it was an insult for a real G to be expected to pay full price for ANYTHING.. We don't stand in lines, we don't wait our turn, we don't pay full price. That was called a Hookup.. They say game recognize game. All of this shit is Game. Think about it. How much does it cost to actually manufacturer a pair of Js?, far less than what they are sold for in a store- a real G knows this, a real G, is focused on this- so theres no way he is going pay 10 times what it cost to make those shoes, not a real G. Thats for suckers. The game is to be SOWN and not told. Game is all about inside knowledge. It could $8 to manufacturer a pair of shoes, you sale those shoes for $80.. A real G would never go for that. I came up in the late 80s and mid 9s. Boosting was a way of life back then. Boosting name brand, real labels was a huge hustle back then. Among Gs, (boys and girls alike) there was a common understanding as to how much those boosted clothes could sale for on a street level, never could they be sold for the price tag amount, that was taboo in the hood. It was a sweet hustle from a sweet and bygone time. Now people want to get raped and they want to show you they have been raped. I know some thorough Gs who wore nothing but the best- stuff that I never even knew about back then, and never did they pay full price- cause somebody can always get that shit and sale it at a discount. Its against the G Code to pay full price... Only suckers pay full price. Our street code had a level of respectable discipline that I really miss sometimes. Being a G was something that everyone respected and recognized, thats why we didn't have to wait in line or pay full price for things.. You had to have some audacity to expect a G to spend full price on something back in the day- in short you're calling him a lame or a sucker... I remember back in 1992 my home boy had on an entire Banana Republic outfit- I mean everything, the pants alone were about $85 back then but if you think he paid full price for that stuff you crazy.. Muthafuckas now a days wanna get raped and have very little discipline.

So you condone illegal behaviour. That's really cool and hip.
@NY-hk1vy
@NY-hk1vy 8 жыл бұрын
+WestsidePatriot You're looking at it with a critiquing perspective. What he's trying to say is the way people live and get it nowadays is foolish. This generation of people pay in full because they don't consider cost. They want what they want when they want it! Back then tho people focused on certain brands or stores and made connections to get the best item at the best price. I don't kno about you but that's just hustle to me!! For example look what ASAP Rocky did while coming up in Harlem. He made connections with designers like Rick Owens to style himself for bigger things. Currently, consumers are playing a game that capitalists control for exponential profit. Consumers usually don't know what clothes, shoes, or other materialistic things are worth because they accept price tags for face value. That said, I understand what you mean by the supporting illegal behavior comment but it's not illegal to be a brand's best customer!!
@abdulkhafidsulaymaan
@abdulkhafidsulaymaan 8 жыл бұрын
What is illegal behavior? Behavior is not a crime, in that case I would have to say, yes, I do support illegal behavior. I'm not paying full price for none of this bullshit- I don't even wear that bullshit. I am not about to give my money to any rich white people who are using slaves to make clothes that cost them pennies to make then they turn around and sell it to us for three times what it cost to make. You do know a lot of those name brand clothes are made by slave labor- thats criminal behavior and then some.
@WestsidePatriot
@WestsidePatriot 8 жыл бұрын
Sulaymaan Kingseed I meant to illegal conduct, which is a business term. Most clothing brands are product in Singapore and China. That's not slave labor. Every day items are produced over there as well. Even the hard drive/solid state drive in all your devices your using. Ironic huh?

The ignoramus that just learned about this high end fashion houses like Balmain or Margiela through Rap songs/videos, will want to buy the flashy all full of big logo items to showoff.

I love Kanye west as an artist, but he's not no fashion icon, designing a couple of sneakers for nike and addidas doesn't make you the next ralph lauren, sorry. he has no fashion sense. if somebody pays 300 hundred dollars for leather jogging pants then your a fucking fool. I think its all hypebeast . that made Kanye feel like he can design anything.

Except he's been named most stylish man in the world by GQ for like 3 years...and Vogue, Highsnobiety, Hypebeast, Complex etc always talk about his fashion sense...Fashion icon is about influence...tell me which fashion designer can throw on a some pair of jeans and like the next day everyone starts wearing it? Do you know how fashion brands, trends and collection blew up cossa Ye? Even other celebrities dress like the dude..He's the main reason Vetements blew up...Fashion Of God...his cosign gave Off-White its juice...why do you think Oliver of Ballmain likes the guy so much? The guy already has the influence and he has dedicated a lot of time to studying fashion...and the results are already visible...

And if you wanna talk about hypebeasts then that same arguments must be used for all designers, why do people but Gucci? Name...Fashion is 90% driven by hype...so why hate on Kanye for building an influential empire where he can easily get his ideas to the world?
