I was spectating Zane Grey in 2009 when Karl fell and broke his arm. He was wearing a test pair of Mafates. They looked so awkward and over cushioned at the time. Karl told Me that they were so Cush and comfortable. I bought a pair in Phoenix and loved them. After 76 Ultra Marathons, I will never turn back.

Soon after learning about ultrarunning in 2019, I came across Made to Be Broken, a documentary about Karl's third attempt on the Appalachian trail, and from that moment I was hooked on ultrarunning and hooked on Karl Meltzer. I could listen to him tell stories and talk about running and golf and probably just about anything for hours. Thank you for this super terrific conversation.

Thank you Dylan for this great chat with of the legends our sport! Karl is such an inspiration for many of us, as you say he is a pioneer in so many ways. One of the highlights of my running encounters was to be able to meet him thanks to Sage Canaday in Chamonix in 2022. Will never forget how nice Karl was when chatting with this French guy fan the sport that he didn't know at all 🙏

By the way Karl, could you please advocate for the Speedgoat EVO to be back in shops? My favorite trail running shoe ever!
