Cross-language translations of other countries patriotic/nationalistic/folk/militant/imperialist songs done right is a beautiful thing. It takes much of the implied hate or exclusivity associated with it being 'their song' and 'their culture' (more or less of this depending on the context of the song - less for most anthems, more for most imperialistic songs) and purifies it, turning it into something easily respected (their sentiments easily understood as our sentiments) and inclusive. It takes 'their song' and turns it into 'our song', something that is simultaneously theirs and also all of humanity's. It's especially pure and wonderful when it is the historical 'other side' that gets a version that clearly gets the point - like the Boxer version of the 55 days in Peking song. In such a situation, the complete set of songs ends up purifying the entire set of any implied toxicity, and establishes as a set of songs that describes all of us - humanity, our past struggle, something for all of us to respect, remember, and grow from. Even if not the historical other side, it still serves as a cultural bridge, bringing the sentiments of people from the past to another people in a form all can understand.

@spottdro55el182 жыл бұрын
What? Do you actually know history? 900 years in the Kingdom of Hungary, the Transylvanian Germans had survived. In almost 100 years of Romania, they disappared entirely. From their houses, you can actually hear the Roma/Romanian language. The actual President of Romania is a balkan guy, not actually German. As Saxons, we are ashamed of him. As a true Saxon myself, I won't identify with Romania for what they did to my ancestors forever. And probably most of us, Saxons who live in Germany won't comeback to Romania ever. I still have the papers how my grandfather was expropriated in the favour of the Orthodox Romanian Mayor at that time, I still have the Tax Receipt how the Romanian army confiscated all the Goods from my grandfather farm and many more. Romanians took even our bread from oven. :) No, thanks.

@@spottdro55el18 if you think that the Saxons disappeared because of Romanian rule, I suggest you look a little bit closer in history. Who do you think that ordered the expulsion of German from Central and Eastern Europe? Not Romania for sure. USSR. 99% of the Germans that were expulsed / captured / send away from Romania happened under the rule of the Soviet Army… and the same thing goes with Hungary: Germans from Hungary had the same fate. I am Romanian and the family of my boyfriend are Germans from Odessa, where, before the second world war, there used to be a big comunity of Germans. After 1945, the whole family of my boyfriend was sent to Siberia, until the 70s when they managed to get a permit to emigrate to Germany. That whole community of Germans from Odessa is now just history.
@spottdro55el18 Жыл бұрын
@@EM-wr9yy They disappeared because of the Romanian rule aswell, but you don't know the insides since you did not live back then, neither you are of Saxon/Swabian descent! I am Saxon myself and I inherited all the papers of my ancestors from the Habsburgs till nowadays! Romanians barely know who their grandparents are, but I know my ancestors since 1400 on papers, beside the fact that I speak Saxon. It was all fine, until in 1923 when Romania started the agrarian reform. And at some point I agree, all the Germans were pulverised from Eastern Europe because of the guy from Austria who started the war. My grandfather was not disappointed that he fought for him, but he was sad that they lost. That's it! And while my grandfather fought on the Jugoslawien front, his parents horses, cows, chickens were confiscated by the Romanian army and I still have the bonuri de rechiziție ale armatei române (1942-1944), or the Act de expropriere (1946) or the Împrumutul Apărării Naționale (1944). I have tons of papers that I could easily make a museum, REAL HISTORY on papers not empty words on KZbin. ;-) So who are you to tell me it was not like that?
