I can’t speak Gaelic, but I hear the singing, the voice, the vibrations across air, sea, and time, and I Feel everything. I can’t explain it. But it’s beautiful in all the ways poetry only begins to describe.

I went to a Capercaillie concert one night, and the female vocalist sang this for me....(Because i was yelling in between songs for it) Now i would say this to you again Karliene....only you could upstage that performance. You see that strange little impediment/accent in your voice that conveys a human being is singing. Its particularly evident in the Skye boat song......never lose that in the name of perfection....X

Thank you Karliene, for putting feelings you cannot explain with words into your songs...You truly are a miracle :)

It is a song about the loss of a loved one, so I can understand why you could relate it to this. I believe a women (forgot her name) wrote this after her fiancé drowned after the fishing boat he was on sank due to a storm. She then took her own life by jumping into the sea due to her depression. I can't say that the story is true, but it's what my nan told me the song was about as I grew up with her singing these songs to me.
@CaptainCaliansAdventures4 жыл бұрын
@@ruth540 You are correct! Her fiance was sailing to go marry her, but his crew came across a storm and they all drowned. She composed this song as a lament before throwing herself into the sea a few months after and her body was found ashore alongside her fiance's body.

Beautiful song! I love the Irish Gaelic laments. I wonder though, basic grammar question I'm sure, why the 'bh' in 'bhì' is pronounced here during the refrain, but in a lot of Irish Gaelic words, it's silent, such as the verb 'bhfuil' is pronounced without the 'bh'. This is a legit question, especially because I find all aspects of the Irish/Scots/Welsh language to be beautiful, and I seek to expand my understanding of such treasures.
