Karloo Pools to Uloola Trail | Karloo Pools | Royal National Park | Hikes near Sydney, Australia

The hike with a natural swimming pool! Just one hour by car or by train (Sydney city rail network), the Karloo trail starts at Heathcote train station and runs into Royal National Park 5km to Uloola Falls. From there, we jumped onto the Uloola trail to connect to Waterfall train station.
We recommend the Karloo trail not only because of the fun terrain but also the beautiful natural Karloo Pools about half way along the trail. While we gave Uloola trail a try, it is a simple fire trail that is not very scenic. We recommend to plan for an in-and-out trip along the Karloo trail only. That way, you’ll get two opportunities to take a nice dip in the pools - great for hot Aussie days!
Along the trails, keep an eye out for Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos, Goannas, Fire-tailed skinks and other reptiles. Enjoy the footage!

This is a nicer track than the other one from the residential side.....have you been to Kangaroo Creek Falls.....there is a track from Waterfall station and the second falls on the way to Kangaroo is nice too

Not very scenic? Depends what you are looking for, I have done this track from Currawong Flats to the Pool and return many times both day and night and loved it. I once had some German neighbours staying here for 12 months and they thought that the Australian bush was very monotonous. That was until I took them out on their balcony and pointed out the differences in the Eucalypts across the road. For the observant there are a number of indications of Aboriginal occupation including axe sharpening grooves and some very detailed rock carvings.

hello, your videos are so nice.. last month i followed the same trail you did for the lane cove river loop. just a quick question for this hike though. is this suitable for 13yrs old? i wanna bring my kid up to the Uloola falls and back.

how many kilometers from heathcote station to uloola falls? and what book do you recommend to know the wild life in sydney or australia in general? you seem to know the names of the birds and reptiles and that what makes your videos interesting too and worth streaming.

Thank you! I am glad you enjoy them and that you tried the Lane Cove walk - I hope you enjoyed that, too! If you are well prepared with good shoes, it should not be a problem for a 13 year old to walk to Uloola falls and back. Just take care when navigating the trail between Karloo pools and Uloola falls as it becomes more difficult at that point. When you reach Uloola falls, also be mindful of the cliff edges.

I haven't used a book in the past but I would estimate that most books on this topic would be adequate. I have simply typed in the description of the animal or plant into a Google search (+ added the park or region name) to find websites that feature information about the plants and animals in the area. Then I would identify a match between what I saw and what the website shows and describes for that species of plant or animal. :)
