He brought up his NYU student film a couple of months ago, and I could hardly believe it. He was actually talking about how some directors would go back to their earlier films and try to update or improve them, and how that never worked, that they were never as good as the original. Then he mentioned that they tried to do that with at least one of the early Star Wars movies and that -- in the same breath -- he himself thought of doing it with his own NYU student film, but decided against it. So, in his mind, a Star Wars movie and his own student film are out of the same drawer, worthy of equal consideration in regards to updating and improvement. He said this without a hint of irony. He was serious. He is out of his mind. But he is the gift that keeps on giving.

I disagree with “John was making 80K on the Howard Stern show, which is not a good salary” In 2004 that’s the equivalent of 120K today, he wasn’t living in the penthouse, but he also wasn’t living in the poor house. And I think it’s a great salary for what John contributed to the show.
