Karmapa Teaches Mindfulness to American Embassy School Students (part 1 of 2)

6 October 2013 -- New Delhi
It was with evident delight that the Gyalwang Karmapa spent the afternoon of 4 October interacting with students, parents and staff at the American Embassy School in New Delhi. With this being his fourth such visit to the school, the Gyalwang Karmapa personally remembered many of the young students from previous years as they greeted him and approached for his blessings.
On his arrival at the school, a student first interviewed the Gyalwang Karmapa for a class project, asking him questions about his childhood and escape from Tibet. He then toured the school's science labs, dropping in on an astronomy class and examining the telescope equipment.

Buddhism is very broad, and it accepts and supports other religions that teaches people to do good, and it is so full of wisdom. I hardly ever hear anyone who practices Dharma calls someone else evil. There really is no need and meaning to do such thing, not to mention it actually affects your own practices. Hope everyone in his/her "this life" will have the opportunity to touch base with Buddhism, it can be hard to understand especially for people who have never heard of it.

"There's no need to hang around with our faults." A very kind and useful way of saying: having recognized it and felt its consequences to yourself and others, detach from your fault and live on. There's a similar teaching in Christianity: "hate the sin, not the sinner." The language is far harsher, because the culture itself was caught up in a spirituality of guilt and punishment far more than in a spirituality of compassion and interdependence, but the inner intention and meaning are the same. By and large, I find that Buddhism and Christianity complement each other rather well: where Buddhism, by comparison, lacks in the active tradition of social justice (which Christianity inherited from Judaism), it has a deeper and more developed tradition of self- and other-compassion. Mahayana Buddhism in particular seems to me very close in spirit to the compassionate yearning for justice-with-kindness of a monotheism whose God doesn't want sacrifices but loving kindness among human beings, and a monotheism whose founding figure, with one but the last of his breaths, sought forgiveness for those who'd persecuted him unto death. I know that both the Dalai Lama and the leaders of the Christian churches, as well as those of the more nationalistic forms of Hinduism and of the book-idolizing, Mohammed-idolizing forms of Islam (I'm not familiar with the stand of the rabbis of modern Judaism) are reluctant to engage in a truly thorough-going ecumenicism, in a spiritual universalism to match the universalism of our sciences -- a universalism I believe inherent in and more closely reflecting the metaphysical source and ground of all being. The ecumenicism I dream of would, of course, require each tradition to relinquish its claims to supremacy and to acknowledge (and also relinquish, i.e. change) the parts of the tradition which are wrong either in theory or in practice, or in both. It will take a great deal of humility and genuine, sustained, unwavering good will on all sides -- as well as a deep commitment to the overcoming of the patriarchal and male-dominant, even andro-narcissistic, paradigms that still inform all of the faith traditions of the world -- for that universalism to come into being. I believe it to be absolutely necessary for the well-being of our species, and even for the continuing possibility of a sustained human civilization worth living in and both preserving and developing, and it's a conviction that every cell in my body tells me is good, well-founded, true and to be followed. That it's a goal worthy of aiming for and, eventually, over time, as we remain committed to overcoming our cultural and existential narcissisms (those faults we really don't need to hang around with) achieving. For everyone that comments on whether he is the real Karmapa or not. Would you yourself be able to identify who the real Karmapa is if he was in a room filled with monks all dressed the same? What makes him real or fake ? Im neither pro or con Karmapa. I am simply waiting to see what this young man has to offer as far as teachings. His title becomes useless if he is not here for the benefit of sentient beings. As it stands now, He is recognized as the Karmapa, and very unlikely will be stripped of that title anytime soon so instead of filling our heads with negative karma, lets wish him the best and hope that his intentions are pure and for the benefit of all sentient beings :)

How can one identify "the real Karmapa"?By the energy, the blessing power of his transmission.I am a licensed Buddhist spiritual doctor.Some years ago I received a tantric Buddhist transmission of Avalokitesvara from HH Urgyen Trinley Dorje, together with three thousand people on the American west coast, at the Paramount Theater in Seattle.I felt the energy, and I could tell that quite a few others were deeply affected by the presence of this guru. I have felt this kind of blessing power many times in tantric Buddhist transmissions. I have received over one hundred high tantric Buddhist transmissions in the category of Vajrasattva in all major tantric lineages. So I know what this stuff is.If you are not part of the Karma Kagyu school in particular, then it makes sense to be neither for nor against this teacher, but he does have the loyalty of millions of Buddhists and the support of the Dalai Lama, Karma Kagyu lineage holder HH Tai Situpa, major Karma Kagyu abbots and many other high level teachers.HH Karmapa Urgyen Trinley Dorje is personally trained in India by one of the greatest of all modern Buddhist scholars, HE Great Abbot ( Khenchen ) Thrangu Rinpoche.I personally rely very heavily on the teachings of HE Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche and recommend these teachings to others. I also received the key lineage guru yoga of Milarepa from HE Thrangu Rinpoche.I definitely prioritize the classical dharma teachings of HE Thrangu Rinpoche over the teaching of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.The Karma Kagyu lineage is a pure and classical and primary lineage which has already manifested in the West. They represent a good common ground for both the broad Mahayana Buddhist tradition and the New School Tbetan traditions, which include the Sakya and the Gelugpa schools.The Karma Kagyus, this lineage holder Karmapa Urgyen Trinley Dorje and I all have major reliance on the Old School guru Padmasambhava. The Karma Kagyu school emphasizes guru yoga, such as for Milarepa and for Karma Pakshi, the Second Karmapa. The Karma Pakshi guru yoga transmission includes a full Padmasambhava empowerment, and Karmapa Urgyen Tinley Dorje has openly given this transmission to several thousand people in New York State. This was done at the request of the Kagyu abbot of Karma Triyana Dharmachakra in Woodstock NY.My teaching lineage, the Ling Shen Jen Foo, derives from HH the Sixteenth Karmapa, the previous Karmapa.I support the Drikung Kagyu, the Shangpa Kagyu, and also the Karma Kagyu teachers aligned with this Seventeenth Karmapa Urgyen Trinley Dorje.There is a definite split in the Karma Kagyu school, and most Tibetan Buddhists acknowledge this Karmapa as authentic primary lineage holder of the Karma Kagyu lineage. He is authentic and he will have tremendous global significance in this generation, along with diverse other tantric Buddhist gurus, Kagyu or not.

please my dear friends there is no benefit to say that he is real or not. in our buddhist science there is three way to know him, first way inference by the power of the fact,, secound is inference from opion inference through popular convention,and third is inference through belief, so there is two ways to solve our doubt first one is to by achieve higher perception and secound is to use a way inference through belief to higher lamas, we all have understanding, so please see benefit to relief our heart our improving our thought.

yes, it's me.HH the Karmapa was kind enough to accept invitations to visit the American Embassy School, New Delhi quite often which was unbelievably wonderful for all of the students and faculty. It was a a great joy to make this possible for so many students from60 countires. Aside from my career in classical Indian dance, I was coordinating the K-12 Integration of India Studies cross curricula for quite a while there. HH the Dalai Lama also blessed us with a visit in 2018 or 19. by the way, HH speaks excellent English along with other languages but preferred to speak in Tibetan with translation, well aware of what is being said in all languages.

Buddha did not answer the question, if God existed or if he believes in God? According to Buddha this question was useless & irrelevant because one has to realize the truth in himself with diligent self effort. Further, Buddha's teaching is about attaining nirvana and it's NOT about pleasing god or invoke god's blessing. Nirvana cannot be given by rinpoche or god or even Buddha, nirvana has to be earned by your own self effort. It's also written in many suttas that even god Brahma has not reached Nirvana so what kind of infinite knowledge a god has when he has not reached Nirvana. It really surprises me why Tibetan ignore or disregard the teachings of enlightened Buddha in Tipitaka and believe in gods, rituals, ceremonies & chanting in Mantras which Buddha had criticized & opposed such senseless & useless practices.

karmappa . i agree with ur 1st point but for 2nd n 3rd..here it goes, as i mentioned the word or term GOD is different in buddhism, in buddhist the term god is used as celestial being which has reached higher level but still has some afflictions-thatsy we can hear the story of god with some sort of anger eliminating enemy or attachement or war for women etc. 3rd point. due to having different mental dispositions or capable of thinking capacity, all these basic level or minor motivating factor,which is easier to practice without much reason(some are not interested or no time)..all these basic level to train the mind(due to power of sense) is worthy incomparism to ruminating all sort of negative act (which may harm others and self physically n mentally).

I didnt know and , and I had doubts, two karmapas...but be so old and only had time to study and meditate and still not learn any international lenguage, ha ha. its handy for someone, who wants to spread wisdom around western world, us eu, we, I had good schools.. Do you want ur kids,frds n yourself be surrounded by drug addicted,short tempered, terrorist in future?
