@@DARK_HK878 In the southern most state of India - Kerala. It is a place that votes for Rahul Gandhi from Congress Party. It is a very touristy place. But not sure if the part that has this problem was touristy or not. Kerala in general is well known for tourism and makes a lot of money using tourism. International tourists flock to Kerala due to its natural beauty- lots of greens. Local tourists from nearby Bengaluru Karnataka also visit Wayanad as a normal weekend tour quite often. It is quite popular a place among youth for weekend tourism. Although as I said I don't know if this particular place had any tourist inflows. Devastating news for locals.

@@DARK_HK878 Also wikipedia is source of lot of information. I read just now and saw Wayanad also has most tribal population in Kerala. Generally tribals and backwards are not seen in that great a light in India. And places they stay are mostly forested or green areas which later is used by business for either tourism, mining or other infra projects. Sort of similar has happened with naxals too - they had forests with riches and some rich man wanted to mint what was in the forests so paid naxals to act like terrorists and brainwash them to think they were after their land while hiding their business profits and intentions.

Thousands of Tons of Stone Boulders have rolled down the mountains in Wayanad which is making it difficult to look for bodies of the deceased. Adani Group should immediately take permission of the State Government and move these Boulders by Road to Trivandrum to be used in the expansion of Vizhinjam Port. Adani Group should carry out a self assessment of the value of these boulders and pay advance to the State Government to carry out relief work and payment of compensation to the families of dead & injured.

These landslides are happening because of unscientific method of highway building. Instead of step cutting of hills, many places to cut cost Highway engineers have sharp maintained slopes which are easy prey for land slides. These hills should have been cut in steps and also various varieties of palm trees should be planted. Palm trees spread their roots fast and wide and hence holds loose. Another thing is to build concrete mesh on these stepped hills which prevents loose soil even during heavy rain falls. In same way, engineers should plant wide sharing roots shrubs, grasses, trees at least 100 meters away from the edge of the roads. Saving tax payers money this way by overlooking safety is not at all saving. Also, loss life due to this in effective Highway construction can not be compensated. We must learn from China, Oman, etc where they have successfully built roads which encounters similar rains. At least now Engineers must pay serious focus on factor of safety both in protecting nature and people's life when using precious tax payers money.
