Amid a huge uproar over a bill that directed private firms in Karnataka to reserve jobs for Kannadigas, the state government is now planning to raise the IT staff's working hours to 14 per day. Yeah. But that's not a rational way to increase the salary. Because, in any case, you can never extend the work hours beyond 24 whereas salaries can certainly be increased indefinitely. So we should strive for more salaries for lesser work hours and not the other way round. We can achieve it by removing entirely useless people such as CEOs and distribute their useless salaries between everyone of us equally so that we will certainly earn considerably more than what we are earning at present.

Let's fix an hourly rate and let the employee decide how many hours they wish to work. Forget about labour window of 9hrs or 14hrs. Is the company going to share the profit made against the unethical efforts pushed by the employee. People like Narayan Murthy can't force his mindset rather it should be an individual's choice how much time he wants to invest.

Prima facie, it may look to be okay, but if you look at the larger picture, then its disastrous. Ideally, all employees must be prevented from working more than 8 hours a day just to earn more money. They should be paid more salaries for the same work hours so that they will not risk their personal health just to earn more money. Why are totally useless CEOs like Murthy getting huge salaries and other employees getting subsistence wages?

Let the state govt or department who proposed this bill come and work for 14 hrs daily. Work with pressures, deadlines and perform well or you will be kicked out. Productivity increases when your body is rested and being overworked is counterproductive.

Someone has informed the Karnataka Congress Government that a day has 14 hours so that the government is planning for 14 hours of work. Thanks to the gentleman who advised because if he advised that a day has 24 hours then the government may announce 24 hours of working 24X7 . The Karnataka Congress Government is in a state of confusion..

Even if they implement 14 hour work day, nothing is gonna happen. In this poor country, there are millions of resumes and applications waiting with corporates. They will replace a sudhanshu with a jose perera or ahmed ikkeri (random names). There will always be people ready to work for longer hours and less money. All corporates know this and is always searching for ways to cut costs.
