You, sir, are a fantastic teacher. I just spent 50 minutes in a lecture listening to a professor trying to teach this to a class and I just couldn't wrap my mind around it (not due to a lack of me trying). Then I watch this 8 minute video and I feel like I completely grasp the concept now. Thank you very much, you deserve my like.

Hi Ray, The values for Y are arbitrary in this example, but normally they would come from the truth table, which would come from the output of a particular circuit or design. The part I cover in this video, assumes that you already have the truth table outputs, and that you need to get a simplified Boolean expression. Hope that helps! Cheers, Jim.

Hi Kyle, Thanks for taking the time to comment on the video. I often struggle with the speed to keep it moving at, since I don't want it to drag, but I do want to make sure that as many people as possible will find it useful, and not too fast an explanation. There is really a huge variety in people's prior knowledge, and learning speed, and I try and find the best fit as much as I can. Thanks for the feedback, and the compliment! Cheers, Jim.

Cool approach. The way I'm being taught is with the variables written above and beside each column but this works well too. What was the original expression from which the values in the truth table came? Thanks!

Hi Manuel, Yes, it can be simplified to y=BC + !D(A+C). I would actually consider either to be fully simplified ... and just off the top of my head, I think either circuit would require five gates, but you are correct ... good eye! :) Cheers, Jim.

Thank you soo much! But I have a question. How do I know if it is a conjunctions or disjunctions at the end for Y? And also, does everytime a proposition variable is only 0 - i have to negate it? Thanks again!
@ianos1238 жыл бұрын
Ops, sorry for the stupid question. Its a disjunction if we cover the 1's and it is a conjunction if we cover the 0's.

Hi, Thanks for the feedback and comment! Basically, the values for Y in this example (and the 3-variable) come from the truth table. Where those values come from, is from the circuit being designed or analysed. The steps I cover in this video assume that you have already got the values you need from a particular circuit or design, and that you now need to simplify them. For this example, they're just values I picked to illustrate the example, Hope that helps! Cheers and thanks again, Jim.
