That instrument really has a distinctive sound - especially in that acoustic environment that allows it to shine. Karolina is having fun making it sing. The B-Squad violin by the French luthier had a different character, but it has stunning sound as well. I'll have to follow this gal to see what she settles on. Technique-wise, she is well on her way to being a monster player who can deliver anything that's called for.

Karolina, your playing was beautiful! You have clearly practiced classics to perfect your abilities on this beautiful instrument. My father and grandfather were violinists from Hungary and I was always around the sound of violins being played. My father had big, meaty hands and I was amazed at how his fingers danced over the fingerboard and how he “sawed” away with his bow to produce such wonderful music. Anyway, I hope that you will find a violin that you will fall in love with soon so that you can begin to produce even more beautiful sounds.

there were blind test with experts that could not hear a difference between this brand of Violine and other brands of Violines. people want an extraordinary nice sounding Violine and found this brand, its like with all fanboys that always want a product from one brand although there is better. i remeber years ago i have seen a video of a blind test with experts, they could not hear any difference between this brand of violines and other brands of violines, to me some other brands of violines sound even better.

It's because you have to practice every phrase a million times, not only the phrases themselves but the connection between phrases. It's not fun at all, you see end product here, but the process is gruesome. I played a little violin (at best like a Mozart sonata), and also played some piano 10 years ago, I forgot all the piano pieces I learned, but to this day I still remember the violin stuff. You don't just learn violin, you earn it and it kinda leaves a permanent scratch on your brain.

An odd story to relate,, but absolutely true.. I sing opera,, sang opera,, in the chorus mostly. My day job was as a high end contractor/builder. One job years ago was in the home of the concert master of a major orchestra, she played a Strad, on loan, as is usual. And during the day as I worked on the kitchen, a full floors out, walls stripped bare remodel, for nearly 2 months,, I listened to her practicing in the basement below me. Hour after hour, of some of the sweetest sounds imaginable. As I wired, and plumbed, and sawed and hammered, and plastered and painted as is want for my trade. In my life, maybe the most heavenly job I ever had.

Antonio Stradivari had at least 2 sons, plus other assistants, who all worked on Stradivarius violins. Hence, it's not possible to know exactly who made each of the 600 Strad instruments that survive. Probably Papa Antonio was "quality control", at least, for as long as he lived.

It is possible to tell in the most part, just as a musician has a particular style of play, so does a Luthier has a style of shaping the 'scroll' or the 'bee stings' in the corners. However, Stradivarius would hardly recognise most of his instruments today as they had been modified during the 19 century for the classical period. They would have sounded very different because neck pitch was shallower, the soundboard and back thickness's were thicker and they were strung with gut instead of steel strings. Not to mention concert pitch was about a semitone below the A 440hz today.
