I’ve honestly found that some of my favorite movies to watch in the air are the life-changing ones. I do understand the easy to digest part but I mean for goodness sake you’re all the way in the air traveling the world, it sometimes feels so fitting to watch a movie that matches that feeling. That is, if you’re someone who doesn’t fly too often anyways, that mystery & surreal feeling is always there. Viewing Waves on my way back home is seriously an experience I’ll never forget.

I’ve come to a recent realization that the best airplane movies are Miyazaki movies for a multitude of reasons. They’re beautiful, vibrant, digestible, and usually pretty safe. They’re very visual stories, so easy to just sit back and watch without really needing to be analytical. The music is always astounding, and I feel like I always catch anybody next to me always watching and smiling. And also coincidentally, Miyazaki had a fascination with aviation , so planes are pretty prominently featured in a lot of his movies, always making something about watching them on the plane feel very right, very safe.
@grantreill19662 жыл бұрын
facts I think Spirited Away loses points for being a little spooky, but I think my favorite Miyazaki airplane watch was having a two year old next to me giggle as I watched My Neighbor Totoro :). her parents were like "wow what is that? cool movie man!" so I hope I got to introduce a whole family to a classic.

It’s bright, happy, and colorful, it’s decently long and the plot moves along at a great pace, and it doesn’t have anything in the way of disturbing imagery. I think you also have to be aware of the fact that certain airlines engage in light censorship with the movies offered on their in-flight entertainment. It meant that I missed a whole scene in The Shape of Water which made some things in the rest of the movie make less sense. Also the time I was rewatching The Social Network and they dubbed over the "along with my hoodie and my fuck you flip flops" with the most horrendously done ADR I've ever heard to clean up the language. The first time I watched Parasite was on a plane since it hadn't released in the UK at that point. I also watched The Breakfast Club for the first time on a flight, it was a good one for it.
