I loved this film! Such an intense opening scene, and amazing the whole way through. And the fact that they used no green screen & little to no CGI baffled me. Favourite of the year so far! I agree with everything you said here. It’s so good, but La La Land and Whiplash still edge it out.
@JC-li8kk Жыл бұрын
Haven’t seen First Man, but Whiplash & La La Land were supposed to be relatable, applicable, teachable, inspiring movies. I get the feeling First Man is just a good movie to watch. Not much to think about afterwards or help you pursue your dreams. I could be wrong though since I haven’t seen it. I hope I am because I love movies that inspire you.

Loved this movie. Everything about it feels timeless, the shooting style, acting, story. It's an instant classic. I totally agree about the crash zooms though, they were the only thing Chazelle chose to do that I didn't like.

I was blown away the first time. This is one of the rare time I think I'm going to pay to see it one more time in theaters before it leaves. Spot on with the Crash Zooms and for me the shaky-cam stuff got a little over the top, too. I'm curious how I'll see it on second viewing.

I have an “IMAX” worthy list. It’s a shame we can’t get Fantastic movies to go back into IMAX. I’d love to watch all my top 10 favorite movies on IMAX. Top Gun Maverick. The Dark Knight. Ford Vs Ferrari. Apollo 13. It’s a shame I always discover these movies years after they release.

I went into this pretty damn excited, La La Land and Whiplash are my favorite and 2nd favorite films respectively so the combination of Chazelle and Justin Hurwitz (the composer for every film Chazelle does) doing something wildly different than they've done before got me really hyped. When I finally saw it I loved nearly everything about it. The direction, the cinematography, the acting, the sound design, and Jesus Christ that score! It was all amazing. That being said, I still managed to come out of the view somewhat underwhelmed... I think the issue was the screenplay was written in a way that felt more like a historical recounting than story I should be emotionally invested in.

The crash zooms didn't bother me too much, but the shakiness at times was a bit much, but that's my only issue. This is a fucking great movie. I don't like it as much as Whiplash and I'm not sure how it compares to La La Land yet. There is one scene in this movie towards the end that really hit me emotionally and that doesn't happen too often, but it happens every time I watch a Damien Chazelle movie. He is a master.

Whiplash is a modern masterpiece. La La Land was a good movie with flaws. First Man is just a boring movie that's also a technical marvel. This left me just kind of cold after finishing it. Ryan Gosling turned in his worst performance to date (coming from a huge Gosling fan) and I just hope Damien Chazelle can live up to the promise of Whiplash.
