The movie is so overhated by "nerd buffs" because of the simplicity of the script and the obvious influences the movie has but myyy goddd it is not the first movie to do so! It has original ideas that people look over, it's direction, cinematography, score and it has a top tier performance of the decade. It is a great movie and deserves the praise it gets. That being said... The Lighthouse and Uncut Gems were snubbed

I saw you at The Lighthouse screening. You went to go to the bathroom, saw the line and was like NOPE! Pro tip at that theater when you walk into that room with the bathrooms on the other side of the room is a door, go through it, take a left, go up some stairs, then take another left at the top of the stairs and there will be this hallway and down the hallway are more bathrooms

Mr Runquist, I'm an aspiring filmmaker and want to further understand film. I can't afford film school right now but I am teaching myself filmmaking and screenwriting through books. Any tips for a 20 year old just starting the whole film making journey? Also any books you would recommend to anyone who wants to understand and better analyze films beyond saying a film was good or bad?

I'm no pro but I'd recommend letting your obsession get a hold of you and fuel you without holding back. Books and stuff can be good and helpful but I think the best way to get better at filmmaking and film analysis is to do it whenever you get the chance, and do it your way. If you try doing it how other people tell you to do it, you'll learn, but there will always be a limit to your growth. So basically, create obsessively, rapidly, and without compromise. Anyway, that's just my advice.
