Lying in bed with a stinking cold. This has cheered me up no end. Thank you

That is fabulous DJI - Not that you have a stinking cold but that Alan's video cheered you up!! Thank you for the fabulous comment, and hope the other 50 videos in the collection can help you ride out the illness. Take care.

I have really enjoyed watching this video and I am grateful that Alan Harrison used the technology of the day to film the traction that I, and a lot of us, took for granted; I am immersed in sentimentality

I liked the eighties when the whole network was like a huge diesel 'gala'.

Indeed it was Spectrum. And at the time, took it so much for granted! Really glad you’re enjoying the collection.

Absolutely brilliant footage 👍 The 25+47 on tanks at the start seems an odd combination. It would have been interesting to hear that on Miles Platting bank

Thanks again for the fabulous comment T37. Yes, they did sound strange together didn’t they? Both sulzers but very different voices! I’m guessing the 25 was stabled in the middle road for banking duties but that it had dropped back to pilot the 47 plus tanks instead - there’s a crew in both locos. I can’t remember what the coupling code was for 47s and 25s. Could they work in multiple?

@@kartwheelkarl 47s didn't have multiple working in the 1980s

Nice big streak of oil down the side of 45145. Lucky sparks from the brakes didn't set that alight.

That tended to happen a lot to wooden sleepers didn’t it Andrei. There’s a nice shot on Alan’s film at York where some track staff are putting out a sleeper fire with a bucket of water.

It's amazing to think that in 1986 there was still old GWR toad brake vans on the network.

The class 25s were only months away from being withdrawn when this was filmed, and the last class 45s had gone within two years
