There is a great live version of this with Keith Urban live at the ARIA awards. Must see her 'Ain't no little Girl' - live at the Bluegrass Underground - an answer to all those people who ever questioned her resolve. Must see the live version - just amazing.

Becca it's great to see you back. As a multiple decades-long Kasey Chambers fan, it's really fun to watch you going down the Kasey rabbit hole. You really connect to her music and get the emotion she is putting in. I don't have a copy yet because I have to order one from Australia, but Kasey has written an autobiography and apparently she talks about a lot of pain in her life including losing a child and an eating disorder. So I think the things you are describing are definitely emotions she has experienced. I hope you will do more Kasey and will echo the suggestion another commenter made that you check out Ain't No Little Girl the PBS Bluegrass Underground version. Also, I wondered if you knew about Brandi Carlile? You would absolutely LOVE her song The Joke. I hope your recovery is going well and look forward to seeing more reactions. Much love!

This was aimed at the radio stations who wouldn't play any of her first album which had been critically acclaimed. Ironically this was an absolute smash hit and is still on rotation on the radio today 20+years later. I hope you eventually get to my suggestion for Lawrence - Don't lose sight (acoustic). It truly is uplifting.

@@chaoticoldbore I think it’s amazing this song has likely far outlasted most if not all who DID make it to radio play back then. Rock on, Kasey! Yes, this song is a good anthem for what Leonard Cohen called “the ones like us, who are oppressed by the figures of beauty.” He continued, “we are ugly, but we have the music.” Big thanks to Kasey for writing this song, and to Becca for sharing it. Another one this reminds me of is Beth Hart’s “Leave the Light On,” have you heard it?

@@BeccaDoss the Leonard Cohen lines are from his beautifully sad song, “Chelsea Hotel #2,” which he wrote for Janis Joplin. That one is also worth a listen. But I think the Beth Hart song will hit you harder, the way it does to me too.

Becca, I recently learned of Kasey Chambers but had not seen this video before. Thanks for reacting to it and for your insightful and loving commentary. I greatly look forward to your next reaction to Angelina Jordan and I would recommend a recent original song, "Good in Goodbyes". You likely have a long list of new artists to react to but please add The Warning, a power trio of 3 sisters from Monterrey Mexico. They are currently ages 24, 22 and 19 and about to release their 4th album. Their band name is appropriate, as they write lyrics with their views on today's world and they deliver those lyrics with their own unique style of rock. I have seen them live 4 times and can't wait for my next concert. I highly suggest starting with their first music video, "XXI Century Blood" which is the title track for their first album, released when they were ages 17, 15 and 12. The lyrics are in the description. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qaq3qpqXaNGJgpIsi=XjRIRLFO8RAWsxCl

When l was growing up, l always felt that l was invisible; barring the love from my mother, l felt like l had to fight to be accepted. I'm fairly introverted, and tend to push too much; I end up pushing people away, with my over the top approach. Yes, I feel I'm not pretty enough; which tends to make me over emotional, especially when I see others receiving the sort of love I crave.

Jay, I am so sorry to hear of the pain you had to endure at such a young age-if no one has told you recently, you deserved so much better than that. And also, you are not over-emotional or too sensitive or any of those other things that are often levied at those of us who feel so deeply. You are in good company here in this community, and I’m so thankful to have you here. And you deserve all the love you see others receiving-I know it’s not much, but I hope you can feel any of the love I’m trying to send virtually. I’m so glad you’re here.💕🫂

It may not be for everyone, but there are a lot of people who tell me that’s one thing they enjoy most, the time and depth I take getting into these videos, and since that’s just how my brain works, I’m glad to know plenty of Mel resonate with it. I also know it’s not for everyone, so you’re not obligated to watch. I do hope you can use a little more kindness to talk to someone on the other side of a screen, even if you don’t enjoy the material. It doesn’t bother me, because I’m more than happy to talk however much I feel the songs deserve, but it’s just human kindness to say things in a way that’s not just negative. That said, you’re still always welcome here, as is everyone.
